01' PreRunner Rear Lean ??

So I need a new leaf spring/s... Anybody got a set for sale??

 

You sure that passenger side leaf is good? Check both hangers and look for a cracked leaf. Alternatively take a look at it with the perspective that maybe the drivers side is high instead of the passenger side being low. And you mentioned the shocks, how did you measure them, eye to eye? Another thing to check is the frame, it would have to be pretty tweaked to do that but did you possibly do something to warp the frame? Or worse maybe you've got a frame rust problem and a mount caved into the frame or something.

I'm having trouble finding proper leafs. Do 96-04 work? Or only 01-04? Do I use the 4x4?

 

only 01 to 04. and 4x4 works. try bending them first it will save $$$$$$$$$$$.

 

Leafs off any 98-04 works. The leafs on mine are off an 04.

You can take a leaf out of another truck and put them into your pack to help the springs. Look for a member named "4wd" and ask him about this, hes done it to a few members truck.

 

I'd attempt to bend them it's just I don't have the time and/or ability to go back and redo the work if it doesn't work the first time. I need a guaranteed fix.

When looking at leaf springs a majority is 2wd/or4wd, very little mention of pre-runner. I'd only like to replace just one, so it's important the height matches.

 

So did you take a second look and the one leaf is bad?

 

I took it to a body shop, then two auto shops. Everywhere I went I was told the leaf spring had gone weak. I spent about 20minutes under the truck yesterday looking for anything out of place and couldn't see anything wrong. Frame looks good in and out, only rust I found was inside the back bumper. Mild surface.

I've got experience with coil springs, but this is the first time I owned a vehicle with leaf springs. Should be interesting when I go to remove/replace it/them.
Ideally, I would like to do all the work myself with one jack, couple stands, and just replace one leaf, not both.

 

the leafs on the first gen are notorious for going bad. Before i replaced mine, my springs had a frown to it.

 

Anyone recommed a fairly inexpensive new option?

I'm on Car-parts.com and having trouble finding a yard that has what I need and are willing to ship them. Either too far away, or want to put them on a pallet.

 

Check to see if someone fell asleep in the bed. It could happen.

 

Not to make light of your situation-this actually happened to me when I owned a 1st gen. I would agree that your leaf springs are the likely culprit if you checked the mounts etc. Shop around-there are a lot of aftermarket springs out there.......

 

Most manufacturers make them for 95-97, 98-00. Some are 98-04. Some are side specific. Some aren't. Doesn't make any sense. I know the 95-97 are 51", and 98+ is 55" so I guess I find out the hard way what the differences are b/t 98-00 & 01-04. Maybe the eyelet I.D.?

I purchased one factory replacement mfg by Dorman labeled to fit 98-00 4x4/prerunner. Autozone and Oreilly's sell them for the 98-00. I was able to find them for $117shipped, as opposed to Autoz/Oriellys $198ea. Better than a weak spring, returning one is better than two. Only needing to replace one a hell of lot better than buying two..

To answer your question, your truck has the same suspension as a 4X4 so use 4X4 leaves.

I know a lot of people use chevy springs in their builds... you could try that but I think they would provide a lot of lift (but hey, this could be your excuse to lift )
