I bought an 09 that is XM Radio ready.

You need to buy the XM receiver (around $200.00) and the "Fit Kit" (Wiring harness approx $100.00) from the Toyota parts department - total price approx $300.00

When you pick up the parts, ask them to print the instructions (very detailed with graphics and pics). It will take about 1 1/2 hours to install.

The XM reciever goes underneath the jack in the back cargo area and you wire it from there, along the drivers side the plug it into the left kick panel by the emergency brake. It's a pretty straight forward to install.

That's a portable XM reciever and yes it will work but that is not what Toyota intended.

If your Tacoma is pre-wired for XM, that means it already has the antenna on the roof and wired to the radio. In order for the factory radio to receive XM signals, you need to buy the XM reciever from your dealerships and install it.

I have an 09 with XM installed with the factory head unit. If I switch to an aftermarket headunit can I just use the existing XM tuner and will I need some kind of conversion kit to make it work right?
