lol yes he literally sounds like a bear. and that cute looking face melts away and he looks like a rattle snake all business. we walk him sometimes in center city phila and down at the beach. when guys come up to my wife when she is walking him he literally inserts himself between them and lets out this growl that sounds like its coming from a mile away its kind of scary! i have found out that after owning dogs of all types through out the course of my life that the great dane really is the apollo of dogs, but like i said its my job to protect him! i think of him as my hairy son not the house protector we actually try to discourage that kind of behavior. he is 42 1/2 inches at the shoulder so god forbid if he ever did bite someone it would be bad probably really bad!

Your friend simply handled this wrong. He should have gone out there and shot the first guy he approached in the shoulder, and then told the other guys that the next shot would be a kill shot! Armed or not, I bet the others would have left in a hurry and took their friend with them.

The number one problem that leads to injury or death for a gun owner is that many of these people have no plans to use their gun. They simply want it as deterrent. I was taught that you never point a gun at anything you don't intend to shoot. Don't get me wrong, I hope I never find myself in a situation like this, but if I draw my weapon I plan to use it...and thanks to the wonderful Castle Doctrine here in Texas I have the law on my side if I do.

I disagree completely. I would never even think about drawing a gun on somebody because they are stealing my speakers. Call the cops and get the camera out.
My pistol would never come out unless I felt that a life was in danger.

Not to steal the subject away or anything but I don't think the Castle Doctorin wouldn't cover speaker theft in an unoccupied car. you are talking about a seriously gray area. The Key part of the castle Docterin is that you have to believe that the intruder intends to do you or your family harm. If you shot one of those robbers you would more than likey have gone to jail. Atleast thats how it would have been in the states that I have lived in. Also Please Don't get me wrong I alway have a loaded Gun eather on me or in very close proximity.

I know what you are saying, and in many states you are probably right, but in Texas the law favors the victim and not the criminal. Texas law allows deadly force regardless of whether or not the intruder intends to do harm and it extends to you vehicle. In fact, the law allows you to shoot an intruder in the back. A guy named Joe Horn did just that a few years back and was never charged.

Now, I would not shoot a man in the back as he ran away from me. But these types of laws certainly make criminals think twice. It is 'like a whole other country' down here.

We use him to protect our home when we aren't there. He has access to all parts of the house including the garage. When we are there we use him and firearms. He has done a good job so far.
