Bleeding brakes

Hey guys, im trying to do a brake job on the taco, just wondering when it comes time to bleed my brakes should i start the truck so theres not a huge amount of pressure in the lines? im kinda new to this

 

If you're just replacing the pads/rotors/shoes/drums there is no need to bleed the brakes after.

You only need to bleed the brakes if the system has been 'opened' somehow, either by a leak or through replaced calipers, lines, master cylinder or wheel cylinders.

And no, there is no need to start the truck when bleeding, although you can if you like.

 

ok im guna have to check the truck over very whell because yesterday i lost all braking power and had to use the ebrake to get home

 

What were the symptoms? Pedal on the floor and no braking, some braking, extreme brake input effort? Each of these tell a differant story.
Pedal on the floor with no brakes=Master cylinder kaput.
Pedal on the floor with some braking=One broken brake line/blown brake piston/wheel cylinder, partially kaput master cylinder.
Exterme brake pedal effort=bad brake booster or no vaccuum.
Modern brake systems have two separate circuits with one master cylinder. I don't know if we have a front to back split, or a diagonal split. A broken line will only cause a loss of one circuit.
