Yeah but I am short and can't reach it well enought to remove the blade while it is all the way in the up and locked position.

You are lucky I did the same thing to mine last winter. Problem is I live in Germany and they dont have Tacoma's over here. I had to special order mine from the US and have it shipped here, then when it got here I had to keep my truck at the Garage for like a week so that it would heat up since it was in the middle of winter so they could install it. The total price was about 2500 Euro or $3200. Thank god I have really good insurance so it only cost me $250.00, but it was still a pain in the butt.

I dislike insurance/auto glass shop replacements because of the wavy mass produced glass. I had a rare Acura Vigor that needed a new windshield. $100 for a glass shop version with no insurance vs. $450 for factory glass. I went with the wavy due to the price.

I get every little chip fixed on my factory glass to keep it as long as possible.

The last windshield I bought was 200 bucks from the independent glass shop in town. No problems with it ever.

WTF is the dealer thinking? That just seems crazy! Can't think of what might be different, they are both going to be safety glass of course.

Yeah I get free windshields but most people dont. Its kinda one of those hidden options no one looks at when getting insurance policies.

Ok so here is where it ended.
    Allstate is my insurance company.
I have a $50 dollar deductible (Must verify the glass and company first)
They refused to get the higher priced glass! My reply was WTF, ok i'll just hang up and contact my agent and change companies. They replied we'll call you right back please hold off on making any changes. I responded with i'll give you till after lunch. Then hung up.
They called back and it was simple they will replace the glass with the company of my choosing. I went with the company that Toyota uses. They came out to my house and replaced the windshield for $50 within a half hour of arriving. Case closed.
    Thanks for everyones input.

I replaced my windshield with one from a glass shop. It was a factory match and was (IIRC) $200-300 installed at my home.

Same glass however the after market glass don't put the Toyota markings at the lower left side of the window. I heard the tacoma's are prone to easy breakage...which is why most shops will carry this window. Mine was $195 installed. $160 for the windshield and another $35 for the trim.

As for why the price difference? Ask Toyota...

90% of the services and items a dealer handles are 4-10 times more expensive than after market parts or outside services. Even better is a lot of things they out source. Windshields, sunroofs, dent removal, etc.

^ this plus its at the dealership. I broke my back window and got an aftermarket plus install for $300. Sounds like a good deal for $150
