Sr5 Oil Cooler?

I read somewhere that one of the features of the Sr5 was that it had an Oil Cooler for towing. I thought that was pretty cool. But when i looked at my rad the other day I didn't see one in front of it. So did i get excited over incorrect info? What exactly did Sr5 even include?

 

The oem oil cooler that comes with the factory tow package doesn't not have a heat exchanger in front of the radiator. It ties directly into the coolant...

So looks like it's cooled by Rad fluid? Im guessing this since those look like hoses for the water cooling system leading into what is marked oil cooler?

 

From 1995.5 - 2004, no SR5 package included any coolers or other engine / transmission related options. 'SR5' was strictly a set of trim / accessory options.

The only 2001 - 2004 'oil cooler' factory option was the transmission oil cooler included with the factory towing package *only on automatics*.

There was no engine oil cooler included with the factory tow package.

The factory transmission oil cooler was apparently sourced from Hayden, and yes - it was one of the 'mini-radiator' types that was mounted next to the radiator.

The unit illustrated in Dagul's post is not the factory towing package transmission oil cooler.

 

My mistake... TW automatically makes me think 2nd gen...

 

oh damn. that sucks. Dagul you got my hopes up! That's weird i thought Sr5 was code for tow package. not just some trim and accessories... I guess my truck doesn't have the tow package since it's and auto and doesn't have a Hayden tranny cooler. oh well.

 

I just added a B&M 70268 Oil Cooler for like $60 total to include brackets and misc supplies. There are guides on the site if you ever get the bug.

probably some bad info still rattling around the back of my head from some guy at a used car lot i spoke too early on in my search for a taco.

speaking of used car salesman. I remember the first place i went to i said "do you have any pre-05 tacomas" the guy, with a heavy puerto rican accent, replied "oh man.... that's a rare bird right there...". took me more than a year from that point to find the truck i finally got. Now my nick name for my truck is "rare bird". Useless info to rattle around all of your heads now.
