Epoxy Flooring

I getting a house soon and thinking of coating it with an epoxy floor covering.
Would it stand up to welding sparks?
Chemical being spilled occasionally on it (i.e. acetone, paint thinner)?
How durable is it?
easy to clean?

Any info is welcome.

epoxy coatings are great as long as you prep the floor the right way and make sure absolutely no contaminents are present. i had planned on doing my garage floor....but so much shit has been spilled on it, the epoxy coating would never seal the right way.

 

Welding sparks will burn through.
I just did it last week.
Grinding sparks are not bad but big red hot slag will burn through.

 

I'm sure welding sparks will but chemicals won't.

I did mine about a month or two ago, It's holding up great, no hot tire pickup or chipping so far. I used the Rustoleum 2-part expoxy. Make sure you get the two part, the one part stuff is garbage.

PREP PREP PREP!!!

I pressure washed mine, then cleaned it with purple power, pressure washed that out (scraped up all the paint splatters and dried wood putty during this step), Etched it with Muriatic acid then nuetralized with baking soda, Pressure washed that out, Cleaned it with purple power again, Then used their Etcher/Cleaner stuff that came with the kit, pressure washed all that out and squeegeed it dry. Then I set up 4 fans in the garage blowing the air in a vortex and let it dry for 24 hours. Then I painted it the next day (only took about 30-45 minutes). Then waited 24 hours before I moved anything back in, and waited 5 days before I pulled my truck back in.

I just got the UCoat it kit and will be starting the garage this weekend. I will take some pics during the process. Been doing prep work on getting ready to clean the last few days. Anyone done it on a vertical surface? I have an 8" concrete rise around the base of the wall. Was thinking about trying to cover that also.

About a month and a half ago I did the rustoleum epoxy with the epoxy clear coat on top. It looks really good and seems to be pretty tough. I did scratch it in a few spots but it was when a pallet jack hit a screw on the floor.

I think cleaning real well and following all the dry times is the key to a good finished product.

 

Thanks...after almost 4 years in the house I was able to add the cabinets and do the floor like I wanted this spring.

Do you have pics with the clear top coat. I thought about adding that to add extra protection and more gloss.

I have a few scratches but nothing has gone through to the concrete.

 

A little late, but mine also has a bit of vertical rise which I painted. Mine is only about 3" towards the front of the garage and about 6" at the garage door. I did the vertical portion with a paintbrush.
