Im in an arguement with my stepdad because he says well one Chevy's are better. Please post whatever you want about that, but anyways hes saying the auto locker in chevys are better then the lockers in Tacoma's which are button pressed. So he saw that you can't go over 5 mph with our diff locked. I told him no they say that because of possible loss of control and toyota doesnt want to be sued. So am I right that you can go as fast as you want offroad with the diff locked or is he?

You can go as fast as you want with the diff locked. That being said, the auto locker in the Chevys is a good unit.

You're not supposed to engage it while going over 5mph

idk, i got an lsd. i think its almost the same, but the lsd allows for some wheel slippage (while turning, etc.) but as far as control goes, its all on the driver. if u can grow it, u can smoke it. but i think that 5mph is only for engauging/disengauging the locker so as not to damage any internals. i think u can drive as fast as u want, with it on

I remember seeing a video on TW of a guy in a white taco in the winter with the rear locker engaged, ripping donuts slipping and sliding around

He's responding to your dad's statement that you can only go 5 mph. According to the manual, the 5mph number is the max speed for engaging the locker, not the max speed you can go with the locker.
