Oh..I get what you were saying...I've done it in the past. People don't like being told to their faces that they are idiots and it can cause some real issues.

Funny story (or trick), but I was up in Baltimore with an uncle, bums are everywhere in the city, anytime one would ask for change, he would say sorry I don't have any and point at me and say he just got some money out of the ATM.

Was just talking to a guy about my motorcycle and told him a story that ended up with me parking my bike at a Subway and walking about a mile and a half home cause I was so mindfucked and angry.

Drives me crazy, and my wife knows it.

Out here, there's a restaurant that rings up your order, you can put the tip in as you swipe your card, then you have to go up to the counter to pick up the food, then bus your own table. Tip for what? Here's a tip - stop asking for tips!

In Philly, the bums will walk you down the block hassling you the whole way. I once was bitching to a friend "Man, there needs to be a no-no-bang rule. they can ask twice, but on that third persistent try you can just shoot them." Still haven't lived that down and it's been 7 years.

I won't give money, but if I've got a doggy bag from a restaurant or something, it's rare that I make it home with the food.

x10 , hey times are rough I think we all get that, struggling with bills, etc; last thing we need are people banging the drum for donations at the register or outside the stores...

I hear ya fo'sho' Damned box of girl scout cookies are like $ 4 or 5$ a box

but they should've just graciously accepted your very real donation taking comfort in the fact that you just GAVE them $5 (which they could've re sold YOUR item seeing how you didnt take anything for it) Instead, they make you feel like an idiot for even taking the time to throw a nickel at them....

We were just talking about this at lunch today....everyone wants/needs your money.

The worst part is when you do actually make a choice to donate to a cause....your name goes out on a mailing list and then EVERYONE in the charity world sends you requests in the mail. I believe we have received 22 different solicitations in the last 3 months alone all with free gifts and an advance "thank you" for sending in money. I stopped sending the freebies back as they were not requested and some of them are usable.

I just checked and now have over 500 return mailing labels, some ball point pens, 6 blankets, 4 grocery bags amongst others I cannot locate. One company even sent a $1 bill in their letter!

Yea, I have one charity I make annual donations to and they must have sent my name out, as I get tons of flyers from other places now to.

I don't like the petition pushers either.
"Are you a registered voter?" Yes.
"Would you like to sign a petition for blah blah blah." No.
"Why not?" Because I don't have time to read it and I won't sign something without reading it.

    Or

"Why not?" Because I don't support it.
"Well you can just vote against it." Or, if I don't sign the petition, maybe it won't appear on the ballot and I won't have to vote against it.

I try to give money when I can if it's something legit. I'm not rich but I'm pretty comfortable and I am definitely blessed. I feel like if I can help someone who hasn't had as much luck as I have I should...

I tell them, "I'm a convicted felon, so I can't vote." Not true, but I get no further questions after that. Of course, my wife hates it when I do that when we are together. So I suspect that she would leave me if I ever went to prison
