I am looking at replacing the front left wheel bearing on my 06 Taco. I've read the Toyota FSM and it instructs removing the steering knuckle in order to remove the bearing/hub assembly. I can see why that is necessary for the 4WD but I'm not seeing why for the PreRunner. Has anyone done a wheel bearing replacment on a PreRunner on the truck without removing the steering knuckle? 2nd question, Does anyone have advise on seperating the bearing from the hub without the toyota SST?

You don't have to remove the entire knuckle, just unbolt the 4 bolts holding the bearing/hub assembly to the knuckle.

To seperate the hub from the bearing you will need a bearing press. I went to a local auto shop and they pressed out the old bearing and pressed the new bearing onto the hub and charged me $35 to do both sides.

What about the adjusting nut? Does it have to be removed before the hub/bearing assy will seperate from the knuckle? Also did you have to buy the SST to remove the nut or did you rent one?
It's nice hearing from guys who have done this job, thanks
