I'm not a radio engineer, but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn last night............

Maybe you are not getting enough ground plane effect where the antenna is located on the composite bed.

Try this simple check...........buy or borrow a magnetic mount antenna and put it in the middle of the top of your cab, connect to the SWR/radio and then run your checks.

i'm not sure if its a ground plane issue or not. i followed another members issues on here, he has his 4' firestik mounted in the exact same spot and is getting 1.5 - 2:1 SWR.

i folded the bestop out of my way to see if that made a difference. none at all. i noticed a wear spot in my cable though. looks like i may have hit it with my bestop rear window and wore through. i'm going to order a new cable and see what happens after that.

danteisme, hey man i think that the 1 guy is right after looking at your coax, doesn't look like the coax that is set up in all of our tractors ( BIG TRUCKS) at work.the cb shops that i have visited have told me not to coil up the coax in a tight coil but a very sloppy or even a serpintine so as to have it spread out. here's my idea i-70 exit 25 and 32B has a pilot t/s eexit 25 has a t/s and in smithton exit49 there are 2 truck stops.on i-79 there is one down at exit 1This is what we do when we need a new coax cable for after a few years they get old for us cause they go outside and are exposed to all types of weather.Hope this info helps.

i swapped out for a new fire ring cable, instantly went to a 1:1 on channel 1, 1.5:1 on channel 20, and a hair over 2:1 on channel 40. so it needs some tuning, but this is a lot better.
