Wow within 2 huh? I am averaging a 12 degree difference. I was noticing today on the way home it stayed at 7 degrees difference. I would hope that by forcing air down there it would be cooler than the outside so that is interesting that yours is always nearly the same.

Good thought I will have to keep an eye on that. Although you guys have been having really bad winters the past couple seasons and we have not been that bad here.

did anyone do this on a 4 banger yet? i know taco vendor did, but he didn't post any write up though. believe it or not it looks like the 6cyl has a lot more room in the engine bay i guess the air cleaner being more or less on top of the engine. i will post a picture of a 4cyl engine bay from my truck to see if anyone can offer any advice.

here are some pictures of what i'm talking about. the air cleaner is smushed right on top of the fender. doesn't seem to me like there is going to be a lot of room to make the connection between the snorkel and the air cleaner.

We installed a snorkel on a 4 cylinder tonight and I gotta say the install was actually easier then a V6.

    Pics to come

do they make a afe pro dry for the 4 bangers? if so i'm picking up one of those as well for the air box. this thing is awesome on the truck! the throttle response seems a tad better as well.

when i go back to have my lift looked over i'm going to see if they can reflash the computer to make sure i'm not running to rich or lean.

Glad to hear it. Ill throw up some of the install photo's soon. PM me your cell when you get a chance. I sent you a text yesterday to see how the truck was but I'm guessing it was your house line. Nothing like a 2am snorkel install :D

    Boyd got them from Sockmonkey
The Scanguage hooks into the OBDII plug & gives all kinds of neat info.

ECU is reading the temp at the MAF sensor. When you have a device like a scangauge plugged in to the OBDII that can translate the data you get some cool readings.

has anyone snorkeled a 4cyl taco besides my self and tacovendor? the reason i ask is because when i took the wheel well plastics down we encountered a giant plastic baffle of sorts behind the fender. i will post a pic of it tomorrow if not i think boyd snapped a pic of it.

the reason i'm asking is because when we put everything back together it had two lights on the check engine light and the traction control light:notsure: boyd had the idea to disconnect the battery for a few minutes and it worked it got rid of the codes and performs fine.

i'm just wondering what i should do now it was suggested to me to reflash the ecu to tune it for a more freer flowing exhaust and the intake now getting more air. what service am i going to have to do if any?

^^ IMO the ECU flash sounds like the best place to start. I think we are all in uncharted waters and you especially with a 4 banger install. I still need to do the flash.

on the 15th i'm going to have ok 4x4 do it for me. when i first bought the truck i replaced the factory exhaust muffler back with a flow master 40 series and it would pop and have that back fire sound when i rolled off the throttle. since the snorkel went on that has seemed to almost stop completely. i think that a reflash will work like gang busters!

Parts you need to buy (different from v6 install)

    (1) 3" x 3" (see pic below)

Start by removing the intake (1 wire harness and 3-4 bolts). When you have the lower portion of intake removed take off the foam & rubber gasket that was slightly inserted into the fender.

This would also be a good time to remove the washer fluid res (2 bolts and 1 wire harness). We did not drain the res so we did not disconnect the lower fluid carrying tube. This tube does not need to be disconnected as the tube is long enough to relocate the res without removal.

And this is what it should look like after these steps

Now it's time to remove the fender splash guard body clips. Good luck  This is by far the hardest most time consuming part. We only removed enough clips so the splash guard could be folded over the tire so it's out of the way. If you want more room remove your passenger tire before
    removing the splash guard.

Note: You can NOT remove all the splash guard clips due to the fender baffle shown below. They will have to be cut and replaced later or ripped out by force since the top is not accessible.

Once the splash guard is removed its time to remove the fender baffle (2 bolts)

If anyone has any idea WTF the above baffle does or is - let me know and Ill edit this to reflect it's correct name and use.

The brace shown in the middle of the hole is one of the baffle supports. Bend it out of the way by hand.

Insert the 3" x 3" fitting into the fender (pic of inside of fender)

    Insert the intake

Insert a hard tube into the round rubber section of the snorkel. This will allow the 3" x 3" fitting to be tightened down to something so it is able to seal correctly.

Now it's time to trim and test fit the snorkel just like you would a V6 so refer to the OP.

Here are some additional misc. pics

What we trimmed - the stuff to the right is rubber and the piece to the left is the actual hard plastic snorkel

When we were done Han's truck the check engine light and the traction control "idiot lights" came one at the end. This could be due to us running the truck without the intake on or other factors. We disconnected the battery for 5 minutes and he hasn't thrown a warning light since. A re-flash might be in order due to a change in air flow :notsure:

This information is not from a professional and any shit that happens to your truck by following it is on you. If you can't handle the install take it to a pro.

Stupid question, but how is your air getting heated up 12 degrees from the air ram to the MAF? Makes no sense to me at all. If your not picking up residual heat from the engine bay this is impossible.
