    Hello all,

I just picked up a 1998 Tacoma Prerunner. I feel like I got a good deal, but the engine needs rebuilding.

Are there any shops near San Jose California that you all can recommend? Or maybe just a source for used/rebuilt engines locally?

I can do the engine swap myself, I just need somewhere that can either rebuild what I have or source me a new/used/rebuilt engine.

    Thanks.

It's got 186k on it. The engine was seized when I bought it, p/o claimed it "ran out of oil"...

When I picked the truck up there was no oil filter attached. I dropped the pan this weekend, it was dry (aside from the zillions of shavings of bearing material). I also drained the coolant (read water) from the radiator, it was a nice red-rust color. I ended up being able to put my thumbs through the front of the radiator it was so corroded.

I'm thinking I'm going to go with a new engine, rather than rebuild this core. I'm not sure what sort of pitting and corrosion could have taken place given the shape that the cooling system was in.

Hopefully the truck will have a better life in my ownership.
