I'm not too familar with OBX but this what I recall reading when I was reasearching OBX for my vacation at the end of this month. Please correct if I'm wrong again because I would like to know what's really going on.

Just wanted to say thanks for the info, spent the weeked driving the OBX from the south end to the north end, what an awesome trip, Corolla is a must drive, went all the way to the VA border and drove all the back trails, fun times.
Uphill, deep sand, 4 LO, 3rd gear, no issues. cant say the same for the Ford I had to go around

So if I wanted to go down for the weekend and drive the beaches/camp in my camper shell each night where could I do that??? Are all these areas open to camping overnight? Would I catch crap for parking out there??

If you go all the way to the north end of Corolla, before you hit the Virginia state line, there's an offroad beach that you can drive on. I've driven my uncle's Jeep there before and it's pretty nice. There's a gas station about 1/2 mile before the beach where you can let air out and fill your tires back up.
