i have a 2007 Tacoma (bought in april 07) with 34,000 miles on it. I just had my 30,000 mile checkup and it seems since then i've had starting hesitation. Almost as if my battery is not fully charged. anyone experience this at 34k? they replaced my spark plugs at my 30k checkup so i would assume i'm getting good spark. and i would hope that my battery lasts more then just a year and half.

    any ideas?

there is a tsb for "intermittent no start" or extended cranking.....something along those lines. i had it done on my 06, since i was having the same peoblems, and it took care of it. they need to reflash your ecu!!

Mine does it twice a month maybe? My truck is only 2 years old w/ 13K miles on it.

Tacomaman - how often was yours doing it before you got the TSB done? And did the dealership have to see the problem before performing the TSB?

    Thanks!
Not happening enough to worry about it yet. I've got another year left on warrantee (unless we buy the extended one). Wonder if that has anything to do with what seems to be a minor surging at idle? I'll be sitting somewhere (stop light, drive-thru, whatever) with brakes on sitting still and the rpm's (according to scangauge) goes from 650ish down to 550is, then back up to 650, down to 550, up to 650, down to 550. Weird. If I didn't have this exhaust, I probably wouldn't notice it ramping up/down.

it sounds like it could have a bit to do with it, especially if the ecu is sending mixed signals. reflashing the ecu will more than likely take care of that annoyance too.

Anyone having this problem with the 08 year model?? Mine only does it when it sits for for a few hours but never when it sits in the garage overnight, it's kind of crazy. I took it in to the dealership and they couldn't do anything with it. Now when I go back I will have this tsb to work off of. Thanks.

    welcome to tw!

some are infact still having the problem on their 08 models. dealerships are not doing anything to help since the tsb was for 05 and 06 tacomas, and maybe some 07's. something you can do..............pull your plugs and check the gap...should be around .040...............regap them......should help a bit.

Mine started doing this shortly after I bought it used in 2007. happens very sporadic. I took it in, but of course it would not do it at the dealer so they could not fix it. It did it again here a few weeks back, but I am not going to waste two hours at the dealer. They will just come back again and say they could not find anything wrong and not do anything to fix it. My dealer is not good and doing a TSB that is requested. They also don't seem to like customers that do homework.

I read the original topic wrong...mine acts as its not going to start it just spins like the theft deterrent system is taking control. After a few tries its like there isnt enough fuel in the system and kind of a rough start until it gets enough fuel. Is this happening here too?

This is kinda what mine seems to do. Like you have to hold the key for longer then you would assume. Exactly like there isn't 'nuff gas right there ready to fire. But it seems like it has been the same ever since i bought it new in Feb. of 07

not sure if ya'll have tried this, but if ya havent...give it a go...really makes a difference.

when you go to crank the truck...turn the key till you hear the fuel pump prime, but dont crank it immediately, then after a few seconds....crank her up. she should fire up pretty quick after the fuel pump is primed.

Mine goes in on Wed. for this. I have a 2005 Double Cab. I have the issue where the engine turns over fine, but never starts. I take the key out, wait a few seconds, put the key in and it then starts fine. No rhyme or reason to what is causing it. It happens when it is cold out or warm out. I am hoping they will do the TSB on it.

Yeah Ive tried the wait to start thing and it still does it. Toyota has to know about this problem if there is so many people having it. It makes me so mad when it does it.

Snyperx keep us posted on what happens Wed. Im going to take mine in soon and get them to look at it...again.
