All Terrain Tires Help

Hey all, this is my 1st post
Anyway I have a 2006 Tacoma double cab TRD 4x4 with 16" cheap steel rims. I am considering getting the BF Goodrich AT's. I have 265/70/16 street tires on now. Can I put on BFG AT 265/75/16's on the cheapo rims?

Also...I live in south florida and there is a permit needed to run some of the trails down here and the website says a truck needs to have a 9" wide tread tire...The BFG 265's are 8.5" wide. SO, Can I run the 275/70/16's with no lift? Those have a 9" tread. If i need a lift I would consider the Bilstein 1500's and aal in back. Or does anyone know if they are picky over that 1/2" of tread at wildlife offices.

Any Help on this will be greatly appreciated. I have bald tires now with a screw in one of em so I need to do this soon.

 

265 tires are 10.5'' wide...

 

The 265/75-16s will fit on your steel wheels. And that size comes out to about 10.25" wide I think, so you should be fine on that tire width regulation.

BFG ATs are great tires.

I have been reading up on the Nitto's and the BFG's and trying to find an unbiased opinion is not easy. I guess both are good tires, just what you like.

If I do the 1500's on the front at like a 1.75" lift should I do a 2" AAL in the rear?

 

you can't go wrong with either tire. both are great. there is no way for anybody to drive on all the different tire choices out there. but i can tell you that just about everybody tries out a tire and if they like it they stick with it. as long as you pick one of the good tires it really kind of boils down to what tread you like. the catch is that you need to pay attention to the weight of the tire. a light all terrain is about 40+ lbs and a heavy a/t is almost 60 lbs. the heavier it is the more it kills gas mileage if you care about that.
