You had me right up to the last two sentences. Yes, the pipelines are the same and most tankers fill up at just a few depots, but the additive packages added to the tankers are not the same between all vendors. The MSDS may be the same, haven't looked myself, but that does not mean that the additive package is the same, just that they have similar protocols.

The additive packages do differ, although, for the most part, the gas itself is the same. Personally I attempt to fillup at a Toptier (toptiergas.com) station if possible, but also avoid the mom-n-pop stores if I can.

Were it not proprietary info, I'd post the additive package profiles; at my terminal we have only 1 gasoline additive in the summer, and everyone gets the same one, regardless of brand.

It must be subconscious. I'll buy Shell before anything else, but I was doing that long before I started in this business. Force of habit for me.

It is my understanding that Murphy Oil USA that are at Wal-Marts and Sam's Clubs are the only gas that is pumped out of the ground in the USA and refined in the USA.

So I buy almost all of my gas at Murphy Oil USA. (No I don't work or connected to Wal-Mart, Sam's Club or Murphy Oil in anyway. I just don't like sending my money to people that hate my guts!)

Understand the proprietary nature, but can you specify the brands that you ship to? Wonder if location has anything to do with single vs. multiple additive packages per terminal/depot?

I always use shell. I always tell people to use gas with a good additive. Make sure the station looks well maintained. That way you will hopefully avoid water and sediment in your gas. Around here we can use our Kroger card at shell in order to save $.10 per gallon.

Out of my terminal we ship to Shell, Conoco, Frontier and Sinclair as well as the nonbranded (Walmart, Costco, mom & pop, etc) product.

Prefer Shell. Especially when I have a Fuelperks Discount.

Otherwise, whatever is cheapest on GasBuddy that doesn't look nasty or run down.

I usually go for Citgo but otherwise Shell, Mobile, Marathon. I steer away from Thornton's, Road Ranger and the like.
