Anyone have any thoughts on a desk jet or ink jet printer that doesn't cost so much to refill the ink cartridges. I am tired of paying 50/60 bucks on a black/color cartridge combo every few months when it doesn't even get used all that much and we always use the fast or lowest quality settings. They are like razor blades you can buy the mach 3 for 9 bucks but replacing the cartidges is 3 x that. There is even a walmart near here that puts the ink cartridges in plastic boxes so people don't steal them, yet illegals can come in an cut open a pamper package and cram diapers in their diaper bags and noone seems to care. I have actually heard of people buying a cooked chicken in the deli and eating it and then bring it back for a refund cause it wan't any good..and you know what...walmart dishes out the cash to them.

IDK, I've got a wireless HP desk jet that uses 3 colors and the black and it cost like $16 a piece for the large color and like $30 for the black. Still expensive as hell. Plus we do the whole coupon thing and with a teenager doing homework it's just crazy. Seems like one of the colors is always low.

I tend to like the Canon PIXMA series. The cartridges are fairly inexpensive and they are clear, so if the printer says they are empty, you can tell it to man up and use the rest. IIRC, it will also let you print if there's missing cartridges - I know HP demands color cartridges are full even if you want to print black only.

In college, the guys in my house pooled our money and got a cheap HP laser that only does black and white. If we really needed color, we'd hit the school library. I still have it. I don't print much anymore, so the cartridge is probably 4 or 5 years old and is still printing fine.
