Rim Backspacing--What is acceptable

Im looking at wheels and see that the norm for my 05 DC is a 4.5 backspacing. What if its over 4.5? Like 4.75? I know that going down is not an option.

What is non centric?

Also, what happens if I dont use my TPMS?
Please help.

 

You can go with either 4.5 or 4.75 BS, just depends on how wide a stance you would like.

You are going to want to go with a wheel that is lug-centic as opposed to hub-centric. Lug-centric is the same a non-centric, it means that the wheel does not fit snugly onto the hub as your factory wheels do but instead relies on the lugs to center it. You will have trouble finding hubcentric wheels that fit on your taco and will thus limit your options quite a bit. Lug-centric is common for most all custom wheels of all types and is totally acceptable provided the lugs are properly torqued.

If you do not install the TPMS sensors onto your new wheels, your truck will just constantly show the low tire pressure indicator light. I am not sure if that can be turned off or not, I'm really just a tire guy. The sensors can easily be transferred onto most custom wheels though without a problem.

Dont worry about tpms you dont have it unless your truck was a special one,05's did not come equipped with that option it started with the 06+ models

 

4.5 is better for larger tires, 4.75 pushes the wheel in more towards the UCA's

 

Mine were a -12 offset which I think was the same as a 4.5" backspacing. They just transfered the TPMS to the aftermarket wheels I had installed.

 

yea basically the offset in mm and the backspacing are two ways to refer to it. You look at one or the other not both. The offset I believe refers to the offset in mm from the stock wheel
