I have mentioned on this forum a few times about getting a ticket for not stopping when turning right on a red light (a camera pictured me doing this at 32nd St & McDowell in Phoenix, AZ). I got the notice through about 10 days ago and looked up the penalty online - about $250 and 2 points (or possible driving school in lieu). I completed the notice admitting responsibility and returned it to them promptly - at one point I thought about fighting it, but I know I did the crime so was prepared to do the time. :pout:

Well I got a call from the Phoenix PD today to say that they had reviewed the video and although I did not stop, as the law requires, I slowed so much that they would not punish me. Result! :D I've got way better things to spend my money on.

I'm not sure if the PD were being lenient or what, but props out to them  - I feel that I have been rewarded for my honesty. It was definitely a lesson learned though.

    BUILT, not bought...
    Good...what should have happened,actually did.

No one should ever be photographed for turning right on red regardless if they stopped of not.

those cameras are the biggest sack of bullshit ever.

huh. Come to think of it, I never though about those cameras getting me turning a right on red. I usually stop but once in a while i'll look for traffic and roll through. Don't know how sensitive they are to catching that sort of thing.

I'm glad you got out of it, but I'm skeptical about their decision...

Those cameras aren't even monitored by "police officers." Think fatter, pocket protector on a stained button-up shirt, and thick glasses. Those cameras aren't even owned by the state of Arizona!

I'm willing to bet that they made a decision that their evidence would never hold up in court.

Those traffic cameras are not there for public safety, they are there to generate revenue for the cities that use them. I am very surprised they let you off. I'm glad they did though. Props to the cops for using common sense.

It was at the end of a 15 hr drive and I wasn't concentrating as much as I should. Besides, I had fresh "Red Devil' pizza in the truck that I had to get home to eat! FWIW I'm pretty cautious behind the wheel.

Funny, I had exactly the same thought.

Quote: I usually stop but once in a while i'll look for traffic and roll through

That's the way I do it - especially if the light on the left has just gone green and there's a massive line of cars coming towards you that you'll have to wait for.
