Adding new speakers

Does anybody know anything about how to add new speakers to a 96 Toyota Tacoma extra cab! I have a set of Sony 6x9's that have been sitting in my closet for awhile now and nobody wants to commit to purchasing them. So I am going to put them in my truck! Does anybody got a tutorial or anything! I dont care wheteher they go in the front or back, whatever works for me! I just want to get them in!

Im pretty sure 6X9s wont fit without cutting some metal out of your door.

 

i think he meant 6x8s. its pretty easy dude. take the door panel off. d/c the old speaker. put new speaker in. put door panel back on. turn radio on. enoy music.

 

Why do you think he meant 6x8s? 6x9's are a much more common size.

I used to own a 96 and u got 6.5's in the front and rear. I found that the rear speakers I had in mine were the ones that mattered the most because they are closer to your ears and not your ankles. Not too mention that there is absolutely no juice going to your stock rear speakers unless u have an amp wired. If you want good sound u need to hook up an amp and have them either wire it too all four speakers or JUST YOUR REARS. Screw door speakers as they do not sound as good as the rear when wired to an amp.

I transferred my rear 6.5's from my 96 to my new tacoma in the rear door panels. I doubt u could get 6x9's to work without cutting the hole out wider.

If you are still working with stock wiring there is about 5 watts going to those rear speakers which is nothing. Even if your deck puts out more the wiring is crap.

Also the rears are easier access as u do not have to pull off the door panel

 

I disagree with Bilass333 on the placement of the speakers. If the accurate reproduction of the sound stage is important, then the doors have better positioning ability. The rear speakers, being so much closer to your head would be significantly harder to get centering of the sound and will be incapable of putting the sound stage in front of your head, which is where it should be.

 

Sooner do u have a 96 / older model tacoma? All I know is I had my fader towards my rear way more than the front because they sounded better to me especially when driving with the windows down or on the highway

 

woopsie daisy my bad when i looked up the speaker size i put in the 04 for the year. which are 6x8s. 96 shows 6.5 in front.

 

No, I don't have a 1st gen. I don't disagree that you think that it sounds better to you, as I have no argument with your opinion on what sounds good to you. If that is how you listen to it in your truck, then so be it.

My point is that the front positioning (the doors in this case) are better for accurate stage reproduction. This is next to impossible from the rear speakers. When you are at home watching TV, you don't just turn on the rear surround speakers. You have front speakers because that is where the sound is intended to be coming from. The same is true with music reproduction in a vehicle.

Correctly installed door door speakers are going to give a much better platform to build on than the rear fill speakers. If you are driving with your windows down most of the time then it may take some amplification and fiddling with position but I think it is much more likely to make this setup sound right than it would be with the behind the head position. Again, YMMV, but this is what I have found in my experience.
