Hi John, welcome to TW... 5100s are the Bilstein Shocks that are one level up in quality from the ones we get on the TRD Tacomas... I had a pair of them installed on the rear of my '05 DC Taco and the ride was better.

Dealer told me the same thing....."you are going to hate the ride, etc." blah, blah, blah..... I had it done. I cannot tell a difference. The ride feels the same to me, but now I can load some stuff.

I tried to get the TSB done on my '05 a couple weeks ago, but the dealership wouldn't do it, even though I was under the 36k. They said it was past the 36 months...

    Good luck.

The TSB springs aren't that much of an improvement anyway

If you had to do it over again, and their was no TSB option, what would, in your opinion, be the best option for replacing the rear springs in order to simply up the load carrying capability while maintaining a decent ride?

For my 2010, I'm going to take other's recommendation and buy some Dakars. I have the TSB and they're OK, but I want something more substantial that will hold up longer. Especially considering I'll be buying a hardtop to replace my soft top soon and will have constant weight on the bed.

I have Skyjacker leaf packs on my 2000 and they are great.

Per the TSB the dealer is supposed to inform the customer that the ride will be noticeably stiffer after the work is performed. It's hard to imagine but I'm sure there were a few customers that have wanted the dealer to switch back to the original suspension. This is Toyota's way of saying they won't switch back for free.

    Airbags or aftermarket leaf packs.

Mine came stock with the 4 leaf pack , they suck , I can't imagine you guys stateside having to deal with 3 leafs .

I ended up going with Dakars , but to stay at stock height and improve hauling without lifting get some airbags
