The menards be me is having a moving sale. saw the ad the other day on the building- 40% off. Sweet, i need a few things, figured id swing by after food shopping sunday morning. usually i am done by 8:30 so i should beat most of the crowd....boy was i ever wrong. no carts in the store, no where to park even, jeez! I was about to just go home until i found a spot finally.

it was the most amazing thing ive ever seen. people had stuff piled so high on their carts they couldnt see over it. Women had vaccuum cleaners and all kinds of stuff. I saw about 30 people flying out of the store with, no joke, like 8 garbage cans each! None left for me :(

There were people that looked like they never once touched a tool in their lives, but they had their carts piled high of building materials because it was on sale! I was hoping to score some florescent lights for the garage...not much left.

I had devised a plan to save the most money- hit the big ticket items first. First I tried the electrical section- not much left. I was hoping i could score some wire since I am running low- usually a roll of wire is around 60 bucks. 40% off is 36 bucks. thats a nice savings since wire is never on sale. shelves picked clean though :(

Next was the plumbing section- looking for a new kitchen faucet- nothing left worth my money. I did score a hand-held shower head for my second bathroom. been wanting to get one but they were expensive. makes giving the dog a bath 100x easier than a cup with water. 40 bucks normally- $24 today.

Next up would be tools- not anything worth while there either. hoping i could score some drills or some hand tools, or one of them folding ladders. Them mofos marked everything up. 8 foot ladders were 110 bucks for cheapies....usually they are 80-85 bucks. I noticed all the "expensive" stuff was marked up a ton. Of course people that don't normally go into menards had no clue so they thought they were getting a steal!

I ended up coming home with (believe it or not) more than I wanted to. I picked up a nice 70 dollar battery charger (since i am tired of borrowing them from my neighbors) for 42 bucks. Couple gallons of paint, some "eco friendly" light bulbs, door seals. The best savings that people missed were on batteries! I picked up a 40 pack of AAs for like 5 bucks. an 8 pack of D (for my mag) was like 4 bucks as well. picked up some wool socks and some decks of cards. everyone was so into trying to grab the big stuff they missed all the little items which were essentially under 5 bucks each.

I picked up 2 boxes of garage floor paint at a different menards a couple weeks ago. 90 bucks a box. I was hoping i could score the same stuff here for 40% off and return the other stuff, but alas, only the "lame" colors were left :( Oh well. picked up a garage disposal for 40 bucks after the sale for the second house because i dont know how much longer the one there is going to last.

My best score was a piece of carpet- 12x12. It was a remnant so always marked down. Normally 260 bucks, marked down to 150. 40% off was 90 dollars! I needed a piece of temporary carpet for my second house until i get the funds to refinish the floor- 90 bucks for a carpet with padding on it seemed like a good deal to me. you cant even get an area rug that big for that price. Also got a big bag of iams cat food for like 18 bucks off. cheapest i have ever gotten it was 25 bucks at the pet store when they had a sale.

in the end i spent about 350 bucks. little more than i was hoping, but some of the stuff i needed and was going to buy anyways. it amazes me the amount of creepies that come out of the woodwork when there is a sale.
