They don't make regular macbooks anymore? That blows.

Flash memory, IIRC uses ultraviolet light to read/write on the HDD, as opposed to a mechanical spinning metal disk with a moving arm and all of that jazz. Flash memory has been out for well long enough for it to be doubly effective, I wouldn't sweat it.

The lowest-end MB pro should be packaged with Snow Leopard or Lion. If it comes with Snow Leopard, you should be able to upgrade to Lion for free.

Only one that don't make is the white macbook (can only buy it for education purchases actually). Honestly for what you pay for the air just get the macbook pro. You get much more for your money.

Don't know about the flash memory on the air, but apple will send you a code to update from snow leopard to lion after you purchase the computer.

I'd go for the low end Macbook Pro before I went with a MB Air. Much more performance for your money IMO. On the Apple site, it says if your computer doesn't ship with OSX Lion, you can get it for free via the "Up to date" program.

x2. Even if you have to pay for the Lion upgrade, it is only $30 if you are going from 10.6.6 or later.

I had an Air for a few months and upgraded to a 15" MBP. Its much better, but I did upgrade the drive to a flash drive. Its sweet!!

And you should be able to easily upgrade to Lion quickly!

If you're buying a new MacBook from the Apple Store, they should already have Lion preloaded on to them...

If not, then just go here for the free Update if your mac doesn't. http://www.apple.com/macosx/uptodate/

It will download via the Mac App Store, mine took about 1HR to download the 4GB~ file. Now the awesomeness of this is that if you have other Macs you own, or you plan to purchase another mac that for some reason still doens't have lion on it, You can open the Mac App Store on your new Mac and download lion again.

You can also make a bootable DVD from the Download of OS X Lion, Just has to be done before you install Lion because after the install the Lion Installer deletes it's self. I created one, even though Lion created a recovery partition, Hard Drives can fail..
