Mudflaps for 2nd Gen. on the cheap: $35 complete!

Right from the start, I didn't like my "4x4" flaps on my new Taco. They were too big and I figured that inevitably they would get broken or cracked. I took them off first thing when I took delivery.

I was going to go flapless, but once I saw the road wash on the truck and thought about possible road debris to the drivers behind me I reconsidered. I then started looking for something in the middle that gave some degree of protection.

Picked these mudflaps up at Advanced Auto Parts, and got the hardware from Lowe's. Everyone should have access to those two places if interested in this cheapo alternative to OEM.

The mudflaps were $13.50 a pair, and the push rivets were $1.04 per pair. You'll need six pairs to do all four. The whole job, tax included, was less than $35.

The toughest part was making the template for drilling the holes in the flaps. You then secure them with the nylon rivets in the factory holes in the fender flares.

This isn't really a tutorial, just some pics of the finished job and the parts so you know what you need.

If I can do it, you know it's an easy job...

Tools needed: Drill with 5/16 bit to drill hole in flaps; hammer; level, if you choose to use one. But the flap is slightly rounded, so it probably won't work well. I just eyed it up.

How mutch do ypu want for your old mud flaps

 

I haven't comitted to selling them. I want to see how bad my rockers get.

 

Is 7/16" the exact size of the original rivet?

 

I went ahead and swapped out my mudflaps and I'm liking how it turned out. It wasn't to hard only took me about 45 min to complete. If your lucky enough to have the original mud flaps, it makes it a lot easier to mark the holes for installation. If your not that lucky, find a friend with the original flaps and pop them off and use them to mark the holes.
