as a home owner I wouldn't be overly concerned and I'd probably just install a box. now as an Electrician, if I was doing the reno there I would have to bring it up to code because I am a qualified Journeyman Electrician.

did you try lifting the tab at the base of the lampholder yet? (assuming the fixure uses a typical light bulb with a medium base)

ok, pretty sure that uses a standard medium base bulb. when a brand new bulb doesn't work in a brand new fixture the problem is usually that the bulb isn't making contact with the tab in the bottom of the lampholder. shut the light off, pull the bulb out, bend the tab at the bottom of the lamp holder out a little bit, put the bulb back in and flip the light on.

they are not standard bulbs. they dont have the normal screw in threads, just two prongs that fit into a grove and rotate about 35deg. into place.

but I will take a look and see if its something as simple as that

in that case, you'd probably be better off to just exchange the fixture for a new one if you haven't tossed the packaging yet.

alright I ditched the light fixture I had. I took it off the wall and found the problem, one of the grounds had come undone, thats why the center one didnt work...but the hole fixture hung too low so I put this is this morning.

I also got the grout done on the tiles last night and got them cleaned up pretty good. Ill do another wipe down tonight and hopefully seal it so I can get my faucets put in.
