    For the police officer's reaction, it depends. I think he made the right decision for his safety (not necessarily the public's, didn't have much time to think about that) because, by turning left, he had his whole engine block to protect him. If he had veered right, the Explorer probably would've plowed his driver's side door, likely seriously injuring him.

    Not much to do in that situation.

    Fully agree. The cop should not have veered to the left. Standard defensive driving practices dictate that when an oncoming vehicle enters you lane you stay to the right no matter what even if it means going off the shoulder.

    um... how the hell do you know he looked down at his computer? obviously the taco sat higher than his cruiser... can't exactly see up in front of him. it was a little late by the time he could see the car coming at him.. You could tell he hit his brakes as soon as he was able to see the explorer headed at him. Didn't turn the right way but at least it hit him rather than some mom with her kids in the car.
