    Could someone please explain why I should care how thin a monitor is when the connectors come out the back perpendicular to the panel.

    Key Words: thinnest excuse / marketing FAIL

    cause crappy designers suck.

    you can get a hdmi to dvi cable, which could save you from putting that adapter on the back of the monitor (even if it does normally go on the graphics card).

    and on top of that, they do make right angle plugs.

    Yep pretty crappy design. My monitor isn't even that slim but the plugs still face downwards.
