Does anybody know if Toyota is still planning to produce the FJ Cruiser in 2009 and beyond? I was wondering with slower sales if they will keep producing them past the 08 model year. I was thinking of getting a FJ but curious to see if this would be the last year they are produced. I would still keep my Tacoma of course!

I heard that since the FJ uses its OWN parts, its more difficult and more expensive to produce. yeah Paul I remember reading an article about that.

I read in the FJForums that they will not stop makiing it they just might "pause" the production of them. They also say that there will be a redesign for the FJ either in 2010 or 2012

Interesting! Does that mean they will just produce a few in 2009?

I didnt read anything about that they would make a few. But I imagine if everything stays the way it is they might make the 09s til the middle of 09

There are 09 FJs at my dealer to my knowledge. I read in 4wheeler or 4WOR that the FJ would stop being made in like 2011 or something around there. They blamed it on slow sales numbers and the move to more fuel efficient vehicles. I actually really like the FJ though so I hope they don't discontinue it!

The 2009 FJ Cruisers are being made and sold. Some changes for '09 are Maplights and a backup camera.

Beyond 2009 I couldn't tell you. There is a lot of he said that he said that the 2nd cousin of the head of emblem polishing said they were dropping the FJ Cruiser. I've also heard the he said that she said that their cousins best friends Mom who is the head of muffler bearing placement said they were not going to drop it.

Until I see an official press release or notification from Toyota I'm not going to speculate.

I read in a mag that they were stopping production of all niche vehicles including the FJ. However I've also read in the same mag that there will be no heavy duty Tundra, and just recently I've heard there will be a heavy duty Tundra with a diesel? So anyones guess really. I think with the way the auto market is don't hold your breath on anything.

none except for crappy hub caps and floor mats.
The FJ is one of the only vehicles Toyota made that totally pisses me off. First, they were supposed to be only 19k. Dealers gouged the hell out of the price and I couldn't find any for under 25-27k. Secondly, they get AWFUL fuel economy. Something like 15MPG, which is ridiculous. Lastly, The interior was incredibly plasticy.

The base model 2wd without options is around $20k but you can't get it without some option package which brings the price up to $23K. The 4wd model base price is $23k-$24k add an option package or 2 and you are up to $27k-$32k.

Secondly please explain where you heard that? My FJ (auto) averages 17.5-21mpg 17.5 mpg if I drive mostly in the city and 21 on the highway. This is including the weight of a ARB bullbar, Warn M8000 with wire line and a pine cargo box loaded with tools, fluids and tow straps on winter blend. The manual transmission FJ gets lightly less.

Leastly. Plasticy? A little but it cleans up like a dream. Take a shopvac to it then a wet sponge and some Simple Green and the interior looks like it just came off the lot. No carpet means no stains to worry about and with a kid that is a huge bonus.

All in all I get a little sick of people bad mouthing the FJ. It isn't an FJ-40 or a FJ-60 but it wheels rather well and handles quite well for what it is. The FJ is not for all people and I have run across that many times. People want their plush leather seats, in-dash nav systems, heated seats with the tickle your balls vibrate option. It is a functional offroad vehicle that performs well but not geared towards all people.

Im with Banshee on this.... The FJ gets so much sh*t because some people think that Toyota didnt listen to them when they were producing and designing it.

Sure the Interior is a little plasticy but its nothing.. A buddy of mine has the FJ TT and the floors are that lay-down rubber like what Weather Tech are made out of and he says all he does to clean it out is a broom and a little bit of water/soap.

And really if you think about it the FJ pretty much has the same gas mileage as a 4x4 TRD Taco (right?)

I'm not going to argue against your points because I'm not arguing for the sake of trying to indicate that the FJ is a bad vehicle. But I still think its wayyyy overpriced. There is no way I'd ever pay that kind of money for an SUV like that. Toyota could have sold the hell out of these if they had kept the price at levels initially claimed. 20k and we're talking. 25-30.... Nope. Too much for me and a lot of other people. I'd rather get a real land cruiser fully restored if I was going to make a choice like that.
