Installed mine last night with the following connections

    1) Black wire of the ASWC to ground using the same grounding point as the aftermarket radio.
    2) Red wire of the ASWC to a 12 volt accessory wire, one that turns on and off with the ignition key. Same as aftermarket radio.
    3) Connect the Green with Orange stripe wire of the ASWC to pin 7 (violet/white) of the vehicle.
    4) Connect the Black with Green stripe wire of the ASWC to pin 8 (yellow/black) of the vehicle.

Connected battery, watched the lights blink and at the end would not get a steady red light....reset it again and again....same outcome...screw it and went to bed...over and over in my head of WTF and had an idea....in step one I grounded the AXXESS module, but I did not ground the steering wheel control coming from the vehicle (pin 6 white with red stripe) on the 20 pin connector...did it this morning, connected battery and turned system on....10 seconds and system is working perfect!!!! Hope this helps....

double_b posted this link where pin 6 is grounded

Follow the wiring instructions from the docs on their website. The pamphlet that comes with the purchase didn't work for me.

    Doc:
    http://documents.victorytechnologies.com//documents/product/23230.pdf

    Website:
    http://www.axxessinterface.com/

Mine's been working for a few months and worked really well with the NX501 I have installed. At some point during install I got upset because I was following the paper steps that came with the harness. I e-mailed Axxess techsupport@metra-autosound.com and they replied within a few hours, pointed me to the website docs and then I was up and running.

Good luck! It's still a good product and worth the extra work.

you need to hook the mini jack wire up. the solid brown to ? the color is in the instructions. I think it's a blue wire on the kenwood harness that's labeled "remote".

    Hey Jimmy,

This ASWC is only for Tacomas that already have Steering Wheel Controls. :( You might be able to aftermarket another steering wheel that has audio controls if you really wanted it.

I was able to get my axess to work in my 2011 non JBL system. I hooked it up exactly as the directions said (red(from axxess)-ignition, black(from axxess)&red/white(from tacoma) to ground, black/green(axxess)-yellow/black(tacoma) & green/orange(axxess)-violet/white(tacoma))

The only issue I had was I initially hooked up the green/orange wire to the wrong wire on the tacoma harness, I believe the directions call for pins 7&8 on the tacoma harness.

I have the same problem. Everything is connected, the module goes through the series of flashes, and then the red light continues to stay on as if it should work properly. But, like you, the controls don't work at all. Has anyone helped you with this? Let me know if you get it working and how you did it. Thanks!

For guys with Pioneer head units, I can endorse the metra wiring harness made for the the Axxess ASWC works, and is essentially idiot proof (no crimping or soldering needed). For reference: I have a Pioneer X930BT and Axxess ASWC using the OEM steering wheel controls. As an aside, the harness also allows the aux plug on the late models work with the pioneer head units. They were only like $10 at Sonicelectronix, but other vendors probably sell at/near that price.

I found the Axxess installation manual to be misleading. The pin numbers shown in the picture appear to be looking from the front of the harness connector. I think I finally decided that it must be looking from the back of the connector. If you study the connector and try to match up all the wire colors listed on page 4 of the installation manual, it only works if looking at it from behind. If you look at it from in front, it is easy to mix up the green/ orange wire with the orange/green wire. Wiring convention says the first color listed is the wire and the second is the stripe.

Also, the grounding is a little confusing. I ran a separate wire to chassis ground from the reference ground connection. Eg, I ran the black wire from the Metra harness and tapped it into the red/white wire on the Tacoma harness. Then I ran a second wire from the red/white wire to chassis ground (a metal fitting on the firewall). I got this hint from some of the Swi-Jack install pictorials- the grounding is the same.

Here is an excerpt from one of the Swi-Jack install pages- the author uses the radio ground plug, but I am sure it is connected to chassis ground further down the line:

    White/ red stripe
from Tacoma- (BLACK ground wire from the SWI AND your radio's black ground wire) - yes, you will have your white and red Tacoma wire, connected to the SWI BLACK ground wire that is also connected to your RADIO's black ground wire - a three way connection.

It might be a good idea to note that there are TWO violet wires with a white stripe. It took me a while to figure out that I had mine hooked up to the wrong wire purple wire (actually, I sent the first ASWC back!). But, after I resolved that, the product works exactly as intended.

Ive been lurking around on TW for a while just stealing free advice and learning how to mod my tacoma. This thread saved my ass. I installed a pioneer 4300dvd and the metra aswc and couldnt get it to work properly. After messing with it all night i finally just decided to call it quits and went to bed. Metras website was no help. Lucky for me this fine group of tacoma owners had already solved my problem. Did a quick search, Found the wires i needed, and 20 mins later i was putting my dash together and everything was functional. Just wanted to say Thank you.
