Yeah a turret would be nice but I think we are just looking for something to hold good amounts of water. When we respond to brush fires in our area we usually are the first to arrive on scene then do a size-up, attack the fire if possible, cut lines if possible then by that time, BLM or NDF will arrive on scene since its mostly all BLM land outside our city limits. They usually release us pretty quickly unless they really need us. Most of them are pretty good about it cause they know we have a city to protect.:)

I just visited Kernville this summer, went kayaking on the Kern river and Brush creek. those are some world class BADASS rivers there. I was pretty puckered but I loved it! such a gem there. and dry as a bone.... (well except that the Kern was cranking 5300 cfs the day i got there... ie- Scary high water!!!)
Saw some cool pictures at KR Brewing - time lapse lightning strikes on the mountainside. pretty frickin cool. It's very similar topography to NM and we have a ton of lightning strikes and fires here as well. If we only had rivers like that as well ..... I definitely plan on going back there when brush creek is running.

    Be safe out there!

Sweet!! Well good luck with your fire career! Your at a good age to start so your right on track.;) I'm not sure if your still in school but it would be a good idea to go for a degree, pretty soon even basic firefighter positions will ask for one cause of the competition these days.

Yeah you should def think about taking classes and continuing your education. Anything that will keep you ahead of the pact is always a good thing. A degree will help you that much more!;) Even if your not into the medical side of fire, going Paramedic is always a good thing too.
