I would say Kershaw for sure.
I have had good Gerbers also and I have a lot of Victorinox Swiss army knifes - one in each car, in my desk drawer and even a small keychain one on my keys. They are okay for everyday use since they have the different options, but I would say if you look for just good quality knife Kershaw would be it.

For utility and no BS nothing beats a Randall knife for the last 70+ years. www.randallknives.com/

Problem is 5-6 year waiting list from the factory or you can pay a little markup from dealers who have them because they ordered them a few years back. Als if you are deployed, they will give you an option of six models and get it to you in 3 weeks or so.

You can't go wrong with a Benchmade.

The Benchmade 530 (the black handled one) is my EDC. I do have my eye on a new one though. :D

FWIW - I found my Gerber Paraframe in my toolbox a couple days ago that I thought was long gone. Sweet!

I dont use my knives as pry bars...except my issued Buck/Strider but thats different

I was cutting with downward pressure against a block of wood and it snapped the tip off of the Kershaw

    neglect, mostly.
like every proper american boy, i have always loved knives. i used to collect them and what not. Always had a love for Gerbers. but, if it's shorter than six inches long i will lose it. i have probably lost $500 worth of knives over the course of my life (one the day after christmas last year), so i don't buy nice ones anymore. I cant walk without the feel of one clipped in my back pocket though, so i buy 5 of the $1 ones from walmart at a time. they are strictly functional and work good enough for me. they're folding and have a locking blade.

I buy 5, about a month goes by, ive lost them all, repeat.

I agree the tip is pretty thin on that model. I've never broken the tip on either of the ones i've owned, but I can see it happening.

It all really depends on your budget and uses.

I would recommend a Zero Tolerance 0350, but they run around $110.

If you want to keep it cheap, a Kershaw Skyline is a great small every day carry knife.

If you wanna go a bit bigger, then the Cold Steel AK-47 is perfect, and its under $50.
