Two thumbs up for "Hertz Audio"!

I have to put a poke out there for anyone looking for a solid speaker upgrade for their tacoma. I've been lurking the local car audio shop for the past couple weeks, trying to decide on how I wanted to run my system. I had a set of JL TR 6.5's for front and rear, but they were old and blew VERY quickly. The local shop specializes in high end equipment, and his expertise is in exotic cars. Made it a little tough to find something in my price range. I did a little talkin with him and managed to come up with a set of Hertz 165L 6.5 drivers for under 200 bucks. Normally they were packaged in a 3 way component system, but for some reason the complete kit was never installed. They're rated for up to 150 watts.... I can't even imagine what these things must be like with that much power running through them. I am pushing them with a JL 300/4, 75 watts per channel, HPF set at 100hz

I have them paired with a set of Kicker KS13 tweeters, and I still run the JL 6.5's in the back. Needless to say, when I was tuning and setting gains on the speakers, the difference between the JL's and the Hertz were like night and day. The JL's weren't putting out half the sound the Hertz managed, on the same power. The Hertz LOVE the power, and you can tell they want even more. If a video could be worth while, I'd shoot one, but I think car audio 'videos' are lame. Paired with the Kicker tweeters, which are higher power as well, I can't find it in myself to crank the volume all the way up yet.... crisp and clear all the way though. I believe that some of the sound quality could be attributed to the cone material though, the face has a hard cardboard-like feel and look to it. In my experience, alot of speakers can become 'sharp' to the ears when you crank them up, particularly those with plastic cones or any other hard material.

Hertz is a offshoot of Elletromedia, which also deals Audison car audio...and is an Italian company.

I can't give a side by side comparison against say... Focals but I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they hold their own against them.

There is a nicer line, their reference line, they calle Mille. This is the next in line behind the reference series.



I found this one quite interesting... He has the complete component system installed, but none the less, should be the same woofer.

I'm really surprised, the more and more I read about these speakers, people are putting them above and most speakers they've ever bought.

 

Hertz as a brand makes some very nice products. I think my friend has the Space series that are a couple years old. He's been rocking them for a while and they still sound nice. Well built drivers.

 

I have the coax 6.5's and I love them! I'm so glad I stepped up the plate and went with a speaker in that price range. I love the bright warm sound.

I use Hertz, I'm very happy.

 

JL components may be alot better, I had JL coaxials, they just don't cut it compared to these. Mine were plainly old and I think the chassis corroded on them over time. I knew they were in poor shape before I installed them, you could feel it if you pushed the cone slightly, it resisted. The coaxials definitely don't put out anywhere near the same sound, and they're just plainly dull compared to this setup.

I think one of the main reasons I really like this setup is I haven't really had to touch the EQ. Mine is flat and its perfect. Ocassional songs I will boost the edges a bit, but the tweeters get a little sharp when you start pushing some sound through them.
