Broken Antenna Assembly

Broke the entire antenna assembly. How difficult to change? Does the fender need to come off? Could I replace with a power antenna (Manufacturer Recommendations).

if you broke the mast itself and the base looks ok i just use a left hand drill bit on slow and when it catches it spins the piece out. i know you said entire but just checking.

 

There is a special tool to remove the locknut from the top of the antenna, then the whole thing can be pulled through the fender.

 

Where would I get that special tool? Does the fender need to be removed?

Nope fender does not need to be removed. Inner fender liner yes. It snakes through the "A" post area. As far as the special tool try a jobber first and see if they have a listing. If you want to be real cool you can make your own. Some assemblies come with a new lock nut.

 

Snap on, mac, matco will have one. You can order online.

 

Just as a follow up. I had the entire assembly replaced with a power antenna and as luck would have it the stock radio (non jbl) does have a trigger for it so it only comes up when am/fm are selected. Bought a Metra universal fit antenna for abought $50 bucks and my guy at Best Buy installed for $49.00. All in all a great upgrade as compared to paying stealership to replace with stock unit. Also my installer re used the factory trim so it looks as stock as could be. Will try to post photos at later time.

Unfortunetly I did not do the install. The installer did mention it was 1 of 2 pins and he just put the voltmeter on them and figured it out. He ran the wiring alongside the antenna wire, he accessed the antenna assembly from inside the wheel well after he removed the liner.
