Hey guys I was just wondering if anybody has any suggestions on what kind of nerf bars i should put on my truck. Should i get running boards, stainless, black, etc? I do little to no off roading so that's not a concern for me. I was thinking about getting black N-Fab nerf bars. Any suggestions would help!

Here's a picture of my truck

I went with the Westin 4" oval tube in black... Got them off of Amazon.com and the shipping was cheap too... Scuff them and and Paint them with your choice of spray on bedliner, and there almost indistructable...

Did anything change on the 2012 Taco Double Cab, or can you still use the same nerf bars as a 2011? Most ads I have looked at only show up to 2011.

The main question is are you short like me and do you need the step bars to get into the truck? Or are they just for looks and passengers?

If you are short and need the steps then the stock style predator steps, like the Avid, do not have a large surface area to step on and don't work well with wet leather bottomed shoes. But the the steps are placed well and if you are careful they work well. For example, I have to put my left foot facing forward with the inside toward the truck then grab the handle with my left hand and steering wheel with my right to hoist myself up into the truck. It sounds weird but it is quick and clean.

The tube and flat steps tend to have a larger step area and more room to put your foot on the step pointed toward the truck. i.e. There is room between the step and bottom of the truck to put your foot. I tend to prefer the flat and tube steps because you can put your foot in many orientations and still get in the truck. I will say that the stock style steps have much better off road clearance and seem to force you to step on them in a way that is secure. There is nothing more embarrassing than falling off your truck while trying to get in because your feet were wet... Don't ask me how I know this :(

In short the stock style steps are growing on me rapidly but I still refer styles with a larger flat surface and more clearance for your foot.

2012 bolt holes are the same. I got a set of Ionic 5 inch ovals for my 2012, easy installation.

The OEM silver are not available any longer (at least that was the story a month ago).

Any pics of the Ionic 5 inch ovals and do you like em? I think I am going to pull the trigger this weekend on the Ionic railway 5 inch oval tube steps in black. Having a hard time making a decision on what steps to get.

Here is a photo of the Iionic 5 inch ovals, I got them from runningboardworld.com. I got them because my wife had trouble gettng into my Tacoma, and she loves them., I like that they are all stainless, even the end caps. I've heard that the black painted are generally steel, and will chip and rust, which is why I wanted the stainless.

An added bonus, they do provide a nice stable place to stand to wash the roof.

thank you for all the suggestions!
do they make the avid off road step bars for access cabs? From the looks of it, their site only says 2005 tacoma and up but it doesn't specify if it's for double cab or access cab...
