Its okay hike a lot of mountain bikers like it. There is always someone back there durning the day. But I dont know about a night hike because they have been having mountain lion problems for a while.

 

I have mountain bike and hike Blackstar many times. The only thing to worry about in Blackstar is a guy that lives up there and thinks he own the whole canyon. He usually carries a gun with him and tries to scare people off, just beware of him. Mountain lions are a risk, but I worry more about the dumb ass guy that lives up there.

 

I wish you the best, I ride Blackstar at night in the Fall, Winter and Spring. I have heard it suppose to haunted and such, never seen anything or heard anything out of the ordinary, the local idiot that lives up there, has been know to put a wire or chain across the road at night, so always on the look out for that and other nonsense. There is a few old mines, up in the canyon, but they are fenced off, I would reccomend you stay away from them, because hazardous and toxic chemicals were used in the mining process. A whole lot of hype for a fire road that goes up to Beak's place and to a Dopler tower.

 

if your thinkin the random empty swimming pool with all the graffiti you get up there from a gate that is usually closed right by OCFA station 18 in trabuco canyon you have to hike up there but i think there is a way to get up there driving though i havnt done it myself but the pool is really cool bout a mile hike
