I'm so glad because I just bought the Metra one. Not that I knew but it was by luck I got that one instead of the scosche

I am using the scosche kit with my Pioneer Avic Z110bt. I used the original metal brackets from the oem stock stereo and I have a tight fit and a clean look.

used the Metra Kit today with the stock metal brackets, worked nicely.

I had a silver scosche kit and a black Metra Kit.

I was concerned the Metra Kit wouldn't look good in the dash being that it was black but it actually looks good, think it's cause the head unit is black and it blends in with the trim piece/adapter kit. Looks more factory original, especially with the Metra kit's textured finish.

I just got done installing my AVIC Z110BT last night and used the factory brackets and could not get the Scosche faceplate to work with the trim piece. I could make it work without it, but it didn't have a finished look. I ended up using the Metra faceplate, but I'm not completely satisfied with the look although it doesn't look bad, it could be better.

Other than that, the install went well, took about 4hrs to complete but I took my time. Next will be speakers, then an amp and sub.

Hey Simon's Mom, I didn't take any during the install, but I'll take some when I get home and post them. It'll just be of the finished install though.

Are you considering an after market HU? I would greatly recommend it, especially if you're looking for hands free mobile phone use. I know a lot of people are hesitant about taking on a project like this, but if you plan well and take your time, I feel anyone can do it.

The Scosche trim piece wouldn't work with my Pioneer HU either, but the HU came with a nice trim plate, so that's what I used.

Addin' to the madness. I got the scosche kit, cuz my buddy worked at a big electronics store, and it was free.

Its raining right now, but I'm going to attempt an install when it clears up a bit. The finish on the kit looks like ass, Possibly I got an older version, because some TW users are saying they have a textured kit, mine isn't. The cubby has two big ass holes in the top and bottom near the back, and a nice dimple on it where I believe the mold was poured. I test mounted the HU, a single din alpine, and shook the mount to hell, and it didn't feel to bad. I'm a bit sketched out though as to the fact that the front is the only load bearing surface on the mount.

These little plastic brackets, what the hell are they for? it seems like they are to help stabilize the HU on the front of the bracket, but there is no obvious mounting location for either. There are holes where I'd imagine they mount to the HU, but I can't figure how they mount to the bracket.

Perhaps these questions will be answered when I take my lazy ass outside and install. I'll post an update.

These little plastic brackets, what the hell are they for?

Never figured it out myself. There was a serious lack of instructions. If your mechanical aptitude is good you will not have much of a problem.

The Metra is the textured one. Here are pictures of my Scosche, sorry for the crummy lighting.

Not gonna post pics because they look like everyone elses.

Aside from the absolutely jacked up wiring inside the truck, the install was pretty cut and dry. The kit fit well, the radio fit, and still fits in the kit very well. It is stable under all the driving conditions I've been in so far -- I just washed the truck, or I'd take it in the mud or to the trails a bit and see how that is..

Maybe I'm 1 out of 4 people that like it?

Oh, those little plastic brackets fit on the side of the scosche kit and are supposed to line up with the head unit, they are another way of anchoring the HU to the kit... but mine was too wide for them..

Or 1 out of 4 people that installed it correctly.

When I first installed mine, I thought the same as others who dislike the kit... but I came to realize it wasn't installed correctly. After installing it correctly, I quickly realize how SOLID the kit is for double din radios. I am very happy with the Scosche kit. I prefer the non-texture look so it was my 1st choice... if you like the texture, then maybe the Metra kit is the better way to go.

I installed the Metra yesterday and noticed a couple things. With the Clarion VX409 it did not fit, even close. I thought I might have mounted it wrong, so I remounted the scosche and it was perfect. So I trimmed it and then painted it to hide the marks from cutting into it. I like the looks of it a lot better, but it still doesnt fit right. The top doesnt mount flush and I tried to adjust the HU but it is as good as its gonna get. I think it might be the HU though, the overall build of the metra is pretty bad ass though. I like it a lot better, but I think I am going to have to go back to the scosche

I have the Metra which uses the stock factory mounting brackets. So i can take the metra in and out while the Double Din Kenwood stays put.

is there a way to mount the SCOSCHE Doube Din without using the mounting brackets to the stereo, and only by using the 4 push pins attached to the 4 corners (2 on top and 2 below)?
