I need some advice

Just recently bought 1 10inch kenwood sub with a box that fits behind the drivers side back seat powered by a 1500W amp. I know the air space is limited because of the limited space, but is there anything I can do to get a little more hit out of the sub. Don't get me wrong it sounds good but I'm not really getting the hit I want. (Sub is not a shallow mounted sub). What can I do? Exchange for a shallow mount subwoofer? Turn up amp??

Ps....not an audio freak. I'm still learning

 

What kind of box sealed or vented, and what is the recommended volume for that sub with the type of box you are using?

If you are using a sealed box you would probably but not definitely get slightly more hit by inverting the driver mount orientation (mount the driver with the magnet outside of the box). But trying to make a sub that is less than optimal with limited space available is usually a headache. It would be a lot easier to get a sub more suited for the available space.

 

you need to get a vented box and try to get a long one to it will sound way louder because of the air flow, also having the windows open with a vented box will be alot louder, because your letting the air escape rather then just building pressure, sounds ridiculous but its the truth.... now also make sure that your omhs match your amp and sub and if you can play with the ohms try too get as low as you can... if you want to get loud try to wire it two be 2 ohms or 1 ohm, it will hit really hard, but first if you got a sealed box get a ported box and go from there... the box it self makes 70% of the sound quality dont think its all about the sub

 

just for example........ I have two 10 inch type r in a sealed box and i put them in and see how it sounded, and it sound like crap, not loud enough. and i also have a single type r 10 inch in a ported box... and it sounds way louder then the two in the sealed box

 

Hard to invert a sub if he is rocking behind the seats. But that is normally about .1 cubic ft.

Hmmm...

1. Vented boxes are generally a bit louder. With same power, and a well designed box (sealed vs. ported) you should see a 3db increase. The theoretical same as if you double cone area (bigger sub, or multiples), or double power.

2. You do realize that pressure is a good thing, if you are trying to get loud, right?

3. Ohms dont match the amp and sub. You can sometimes change the wiring of the voice coils to change the impedance presented to the amplifier (assuming a DVC or multiple subs). You cannot wire an amp to 1 or 2 ohms. IF you have multiple voice coils, either with multiple subs or DVC (or quad vc) subs, you can wire the SUBS to PRESENT A CERTAIN LOAD TO THE AMP. Otherwise, your amp sees the load that the subwoofer presents. No magical switches or crossing wires needed.

4. its not as simple as "just go ported" for most people, especially considering the air space. Most subs want a ported box larger than sealed, and if the sub is already lacking for air space (which I suspect was the problem with your sealed application with 2 subs) then going ported will not be a good option.
