ok so I am upgrading my 5 lug front struts because of my fat bobs lift, my question is: Do the Bilstein struts provide more travel length than the originals? I am new to trucks and lifting in general so I may be off base here; but I have read when you do a spacer lift it can cause problems with shock travel length (or something) and may cause the shock to break (because of preloading and all that jazz).

Is this stuff only for shocks and not struts? Do the 5 lug struts have enough travel to cover the lift in the first place? Am I making any sense? Or does the upgrade only smooth out the ride?

the bilstein hds are a factory replacement that will make the ride a bit better. and you will have that issue of bottoming out the shock with a spacer. you can always go to a bigger bump stop to make up for the lost up travel

^^This x2 and preloading is only when the spacer is in the coil, not a top spacer that just sits atop your whole strut/coil

the reason the ride got stiffer i believe is because the strut pushed the lower arm down changing the geometry of the strut cycling with the lower arm. correct me if im wrong

Forgive my ignorance here... but the 5 lugs don't have struts in the front do they? I thought a "strut" was when the shock and spring are one assembly and can't be separated without a coil compressor. On the 1st gen at least the shock will drop out of the front coil with the coil still on the truck. It's kind of irrelevant but would this change how a spacer affects the preload of the suspension?
