You must be sourcing crap windshields... I've had 4 or 5 windshields replaced, two by Safelite, the rest by dealerships during crash damage or other repairs. None were OEM.

Except for screwing up and not specifying I wanted tint along the top they've all been perfect windshields. I'm driving one right now on my Maxima. Installation sucked... they got sealant on the dash and damaged the door seals at the corners on the Maxima... but that's another problem.

Incidentally: I can tell ya that insurance has been happy to replace my windshields at no cost to me (and I carry $500 deductible) so I take full advantage of it if something happens. I believe it's cause they don't want the liability of a driver with obscured vision. The only thing they want to do is to try and repair stars first, but if it cracks they will replace.

well i recently found out ALFA ins here in alabama wont do it for free. and i carry a $500 dec so i'll be paying most of it out of pocket because i dont want a "claim". safelite wants 120 just to "fix" the spot where a rock hit but im going with full replacement i suppose.

I've only had stars repaired since I've been in PA... now I'm hearing it seems to be state related I hope windshield replacement continues to be no-cost here. Just not had opportunity to find out.

Heard bad things about safelite, personally. Including here on TW. Mostly due to their crack/chip repair not being helpful or not preventing worsening of the damage.

For me, $100 to squirt some resin on it that may or may not work is not worth it if a new windshield runs $300, cheap or not.

Just had the windshield replace with PGW Glass. Looks fine. You can see the wave or ripples if you stand off to the side. Not noticeable when you are sitting in the vehicle. Price was $294.37.

It's not a safelite thing... it doesn't always take regardless who does it. Most guys will try it again if the first didn't take correctly.

I've never taken a chip repair to safelite... $100 is way too much! We had a guy who'd come around our parking lot at work and do chip repairs for $25 a pop, and headlight lense restores for $75. He could do 10-15 chips and a couple lenses in an afternoon. Pretty good line of work for a retiree to keep busy... all tax free and invisible to social security. Something to think about!

Mine was replaced by Safelite but they wanted to use their crappy SCG brand glass. I told them I want genuine Toyota glass and they used it. It was still $100 deductible regardless if I use Toyota glass or their crappy glass.

When you are sitting in your driver seat look straight ahead and pick a point of focus and move from left to right and you will see the waves in the glass.

I agree. A windshield that just cracks for no reason should be covered by the warranty. I'm wondering why it wouldn't be?
