No I don't. If I pull it from the box, will it just say the impedance on the back of the sub? The guy I bought it from said a 500w amp should be about the right power for it, but I guess it'd be better to check for sure than to take his word for it.

Also, I think I have decided on buying a new amp, rather than trying to just find a deal on something used. Would you still say the pioneer amp you linked would be the way to go or alpine or something else? (keeping in mind I don't want to go too crazy on price)

And thanks I'm anxious to get it all set up now!

The pioneer amp may be perfect, but it really depends on the sub impedance. If it is a single 2 ohm, or dual 4 ohm, it should be a great amp. If it is a single 4 ohm, or dual 2 ohm, a good 2 channel amp, bridged, would probably be a better option.

You should be able to pull it to check.

alright well I just took out all the screws and tried to lift the sub out of the box, but I think it's glued in addition to screwed in? Is that normal? I'm not sure how to get it out of there without destroying something

Not glue, but silicon, or a sealant of some kind is not uncommon.

If you can get something under the lip, carefully, you may be able to pry it up.

Pulled it out of the box, and looks like it's a single 2 ohm (and definitely a lf series):

So it looks like I'm probably going with the pioneer amp. Does anyone have any other suggestions around the same price range? I was also looking at this alpine amp, would there be a big benefit to one over the other?

Also, I took my rear console out of my truck, where I wanted to put the sub and test fitted it and it's a perfect fit! Can't wait to get this thing all set up

Looks fantastic! Great deal on it too.

The Alpine amp - you didnt link anything. But they are generally good stuff too.

I think that is the exact Audiobahn speaker I have downstairs waiting to be put in the toyota. I had it in my f-150 and it does hit pretty good.

The volume difference between 400 and 500w is negligible, so I would get the one you can get a better deal on, or that is easier for you, if one is local, or a buddy is hooking you up, etc.

The sub I just got isn't an Audiobahn, it's Boston Acoustics. But it does seem to hit pretty hard.

Alright awesome thanks. Is the 6th ave electronics site you linked a good, reputable site to buy from?

Also, is this about what I would need as far as wiring goes?

I have had good experiences with 6th Ave., and they are an authorized Pioneer dealer, so full factory warranty is intact. They also sell on Amazon, but it looks like it is $9 bucks more there...

Are you sure you dont intend on upgrading or adding another amp in the future? If so, a good 8ga kit will be enough. And I dont know about the Metra kit, but I would probably skip it. I have not found anything with better price/performance to Knu Konceptz. They sell on Amazon, and offer 2 lines. The KCA is copper clad aluminum, and they are very honest that it is not as good as pure copper, and rate it for certain power needs. The Kolossus line is OFC, and has served me well in several cars. Stupid flexible, good wire.

    For the Pioneer amp: http://www.amazon.com/KnuKonceptz-K...3BI6/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1319855203&sr=8-5

Kit supports up to 50A total draw.

    A slight upgrade: http://www.amazon.com/KnuKonceptz-K...6KII/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1319855203&sr=8-1

    supports up to 80A draw.

FYI - current consumption is 18A (continuous power at 4 ohm), probably 30-35A at 2 ohm, if that.

I realized after posting that and researching a little more I should probably go with something bigger than 8 gauge just in case, so I think I'll go with the 4 Ga Knu Konceptz kit. Is that all I will need to get this set up? Do I need a line out converter or capacitor or anything else? I have seen a couple write-ups that said a LOC is needed to hook up to the stock head unit.

I would do some searching. I have had a stock head unit in my truck for about 5 days total, so I never looked into what was available.

In general, yes, a LOC would be perfect. I think David Navone makes some nice ones, but I have never used a LOC...

Im sure you can find some info around here about it though!

No to the capacitor. Waste of time and money.

Well, just pulled the trigger on everything I need (I think). I researched about LOC's and it looks like that's the easiest way to hook up the amp to the stock hu, so this is what I ended up with:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0036W9QEK/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0050I6KII/ref=oh_o01_s00_i00_details

http://www.davidnavone.com/cart.asp?24&cat=7 (the first one, the 2-channel LOC N-RHL2)

Everything should be here around Wednesday! Just want to thank everybody for their help, sorry for being such a noob with car audio haha . And Matt thanks for taking the time to lead me through all of it, don't know what I would've done without all that help. I'll be sure to post pics when it's all set up :D
