...what exactly is it that you think gears do?

I can see supercharger power being nice in some situations (sand, mud) when you're running high RPM but:

    - Don't like cleanin' up mud.
    - Ain't got much sand.

And I'd rather have the control from gears. I'll use my final drive ratio to move torque where I want it in the power curve (and give myself a much less sensitive skinny pedal to allow for finesse and control). I'm mostly on rock/dirt mix or purely crawling stone, which means any more power than the bare minimum you need to get over the obstacle slowly is a liability.

Anyway, you're right, since I never wheel I wouldn't have a clue

You and I? We could get along.

It's no less reliable if everything is installed correctly and maintained the same. In my case, everything has been great, especially for a book project that had me on the road for three years and 80,000 miles.

Then a faulty jumper wire install by the dealer caused my intercooler pump to go out w/o me knowing it for some 5,000 miles.

So I am currently on the road for two weeks on a small project having a head gasket replaced, not cheap, not fun.

Such is the life of one who gets paid to overland....and not have time to make thousands of posts on some forum.

    You caught me.

Statistically, more parts = higher risk of failure.

That said, given Toyota's engineering prowess, in the situation we're discussing I think we're talking about going from one degree of miniscule to another.

Also: You overland for a living yet have the dealer wrench on your truck? A little odd. I would think you'd do your mechanical work yourself.

More posts = less reliable thread. It's statistics.

i have a supercharger..........just saying :D but i really dont no the difference sense i got my truck with it.. so i wouldn't be able to tell you if its worth it... all i know is that,,, its not just buying the supercharger and install and walla.... you have to buy bigger injectors and an intake and a magnaflow or whatever, and all that is more then 5000 bucks, i was reading in ttora that just for the injector kit runs about 400-600 bucks but i dont no i might of read it wrong  and then you need to also buy some thing for the fuel pump to suck more fuel when you need it or else you'll get bogs when you push on the gas.......
