Kids PC Build

I have 7 & 4 yr old boys who use computer at school. Seeing how I have a ton of left over parts from builds I decided to throw a system together for them. Granted the kids will be supervised while on the PC which will be used mainly for "Edumatcational" (intentional) reasons along with some old school NES and Sega Genesis emulators. I wanted an extra layer of protection. I use Mozilla Firefox and used an "Add-On" Procon Latte Contect Filter 3.3. I really like this add-on because you can White List websites (allowed websites) and block everything else including google search bar searches. Just thought this would be useful to some that have a dedicated PC for your kids without having to modify router privileges to certain ip / mac addresses. Questions shoot me an IM, Thanks.

PS The only two sites they have access to are http://www.starfall.com/ & http://www.abcya.com/ pretty cool sites for kids.

Thats good info thanks for sharing. I have an 8 year old who wants more and more to go online and do school related things so I'll be building a cheapo system in the near future as well.

 

Sounds like a pretty sweet setup.

I've read good things about that Mozilla Add-On, too.

We have a spare netbook that my wife uses when she travels. We've been letting our son use it under his own account. He's just 5 and uses flash based educational games they also play at school.
Consider a netbook. It's cheap and is portable. It's a winner for us!
