Glow Shift gauges and their oil filter adapter

I just installed Glow Shift oil temp and oil pressure gauges, along with one of their oil filter adapters between the oil filter and the engine. I'm having no luck getting the oil filter adapter to seal. It continues to weep oil from between the adapter and the engine. I can't get it to seal. I've tried it at all torques and even put in a new gasket from them, but it continues to weep oil. I'm about to rip it all out and throw it away.

Anybody out there with the same problem or heard of a solution?

The gauges look nice and they work well. Hate to pull it all out, not to mention the $$.

 

If it's a rubber gasket put fresh oil on prior to instalation.
If it's cork get a sheet of gasket material and make your own that's a bit thicker.
If its metal yous appropriate silicon style gasket material and apply it to both sides of gasket upon install.

It's a rubber gasket - kind of a bastardized "O" ring. It has a flat surface on one side. I've lightly oiled it and installed, beginning with a light torque, about like you'd do an oil filter. That's how they say to do it. After about 3 minutes of running, it weeps oil slowly. Same thing happens when torqued down harder.

So, what I just tried was smearing a little bit of RTV on the flat of the gasket and pressing it into the groove of the adapter. I lightly clamped it in place with small piece of flat wood, and I'll install and try it after it completely cures tomorrow. The adapter goes straight on - you don't have to twist it on, so the sealant shouldn't cause any problem I wouldn't think. If it still leaks... I may rip it all out. ACK! Frustrating.

The gauges are unnecessary, but they do look nice and work well.

 

Could also try and see if you could get a regular o ring that's the right size and give it a try.

Actually, the rubber gasket off an oil filter fits perfectly... I tried that and it still leaked oil. That's why I tried the RTV. I figured the leak is most likely between the gasket and the adapter, not the gasket and the engine, after trying the oil filter seal. Edit: the adapter is made really nicely - I think it's made of billet aluminum and really nicely anodized in black. Well made, fwiw.

We'll see! If this fails, I'll go see if I can find something else, or maybe try sealing an oil filter gasket in there.

op could you take some pics of this setup? i hate that our trucks dont have oil pressure gauges and i will end up doing this sometime in the future and want to see how it looks. thanks
