Since the dash is a little redesigned, I was wondering if removing the climate control panel is any different... Going to try and remove it to install the panavise bracket to mount an iPhone dock. From searching, I saw that some folks use a hook tool to unlatch the clips. Can anyone confirm that it'll be the same for a 2012?

    Thanks

Keep us updated, I was wondering the very same thing - how easy or difficult it would be to remove.

those aren't good tools for panel removal i got mine from a snap on truck but you can get the same thing at harbor freight if you have one near you they are made from plastic that wont scratch panels.

Ok, i'll try and find a plastic one. But what do I do with the tool? From looking at pics, it looks like the panel is held on by tabs at each corner.

just grab a knob on each side and pull out, it's the same. If you get a little plastic pry bar slide it between the panel and the dash and it'll pop out.

    BUMP...
I had never removed the previous year Tacoma's climate control panel, but when FLYZEYE was test fitting their V2 LED light on my 2012 we removed it. Apparently it is similarly designed but slightly more difficult to pop off.

Grabbing the knobs and pulling does not work. Just work the area's near the fasteners to get it to pop off with a flat blade tool.

I am sure this will be asked a million times:
Is the wiring harness for the climate controls the same as previous years? You said that you have not removed one before so you might not know but can anyone chime in by looking at the plugs?

The wiring connectors are not the same, but the wiring is. If you buy a new connector and pins it'll work plug and play. I'm in the process of doing it now. Found one online cheap and bought it to match my entune upgrade.

I had to figure a way to get the panel off to complete a Flyzeye install today. The A/C panel is a little difficult to pull of given that the 2012/2013 dashboards have a slight facelift since the Flyeye website instructions were made. To prevent chipping any dashboard plastic, I was able to pry off the panel with a plastic ruler from the bottom lifting up. Panel comes straight out. Also, the instruction pictures for the 12-13's had the positive wire as solid light blue. Mine was solid green. Confirmed prior to the install by looking at the plug pins and process of elimination from the other wires. Other than that it was a simple install. Very happy with the added lighting.

Hello all, I found this topic very useful, as I was wondering how much space there was available behind that panel. I have a somewhat crazy notion that I am trying to consider here, and maybe one of you could answer it for me before I try any of it. First, are those connectors long enough that they could reach down to the cubby in front of the shifter? Would it be possible to relocate the climate controls to that location so I could use the space that they currently occupy?
