Smith & Wesson M&P. Features it has over the Glock are a sear deactivation lever which allows you to field strip without pulling the trigger and it has a metal sub-frame imbedded in the frame to give even better rigidity. It also comes with three interchangeable palm swells to fit the weapon to your hand.

I was wondering how long it would take for this to devolve into a guns/2nd Amendment humpfest.

Now I have my answer. 24 days. That might be some kinda record for TW.

I don't think that is a real possibility. Didn't they just pass a nationwide carry law?

isn't that the reason to have a gun? I mean that is the fundamental reason I have them.

And 9mm is a good choice that will be widely available for a long time. It's just as good as the bigger calibers no matter what anyone says. Check http://glocktalk.com/

Also some good survival threads on there to check out.

    Fixed it for you.

Also went through the BOB and slimmed it down a little bit. I was packing for 3 people. Decided I'm gonna have to make two more bags instead of packing it all in one bag. Still need to get a water filter and a sleeping bag. I'm thinking about this....modular sleep system. The problem is it's only for one person so I would still need to have a tent for others. Thoughts?

I have one of those modular systems, they are pretty decent. I still keep a tarp and a ground sheet with me though.

this thread is awesome, hands down best thread ever. i have a lot of the stuff that everyone is talking about on here. tent, tarp, straps, gas cans, water filtration system, stove, food, extra clothes, fire starters (waterproof starters i made), compass, maps, edible wild life/plants books, rope, bino's, lights, batteries, toiletries, first aid kit etc. i have so much stuff packed in the truck that i could last for a good month or two if i was ever stranded. from my background in the marine corps and outdoor leadership bs degree i can say that i have done my fair share of surviving.

for yall with a long bed check this out... http://www.bajataco.com/Camper1.html

i really wanted to do soemthing like this on my truck but having a dcsb makes it harder to sleep in the bed of the truck. therefore i have a hammock (hennessey hammock) and 2 person tent ready to go.

if you do any type of traveling these are things you need to take into consideration. i do a fair amount of traveling and most of it is done outside of cell phone service areas. i also keep rock climbing gear, wetsuits, and other misc gear in the truck just in case. never been in a situation where i have needed it but i have been in plenty of situations where it has come in handy! its a good thing to have. if you drive from your house to work, and on weekends the occasional drive up the mountain no need for a bob. but if you travel, live outdoors, live for the adenture, have a loved one with you on those long holliday hauls, have a bob just incase. you never know what this world is going to throw at you. im 25 and i have seen a lot. be prepared. proper prior planning prevents piss poor performance. the 7 P's!!! live by it and it will do you well!

So, I've seen alot of talk on here about guys being a little over prepared. If something did happen the greater good of man would prevail, etc. For the past 10 years I've spent more time out of America than in it. I've been to former Soviet block countries, African countries, Middle East to include Iraq, Turkey, Afghanistan and Palestine. As a member of an SF team, it was different than what most soldiers see. Most soldiers go overseas to a big base and then travel from a big base to a smaller base and run missions to villages in their AO. We would do more FID (foreign internal defense) stuff as well as DA (direct action).

So what does all this have to do with this thread?

In all the shitholes I've been to, there is never a stable form of government or economy. When this is present, the strong (not the morally right or good) take over, they opress the weak and take control of the main shelters, medical, weapons and food supplies.

This isn't in just one place, this takes place worldwide and is at the heart of man. The weak come together in shock at what is going on while the strong take over, rape, kill and enslave the awstruck weak.

It was our job as SF operators to train the weak in combat tactics, shadow governments and self reliance to overcome their oppression.

I've seen enough of this world to know that if our government/economy ever crumbles...the strong will take over the streets and the weak will become fodder.

If you think Americans are different and we'll all just gather around for a group hug and sing kumbaya while we work for a better world, you are sadly mistaken.

Katrina and LA riots are just a glimpse as to what happens when people realize that they will not be held accountable for their actions and law enforcement has gone by the wayside.

When people realize that they have a chance to take control and become powerful, they will do just that. America is no different. I have little faith in my fellow man because I've been to countries where there are no McDonalds, where people are slaughtered over 25kg's of rice and babies are thrown out of hospitals and left to die on the streets because a new warlord has came to town and demands higher compensation.

I'm prepared. That's all. If you think I'm crazy or cynacil, go ahead. I've seen enough to know what will happen if the economy and government fall. My family will never endure the hardships that I've seen first hand.

We live in a country where literally about $1000 can make that difference. I love them enough to have that insurance just as I have life insurance. It's there if we ever need it and if not it was always a nice safety blanket.

    To each his own.

Couple thousand? In Maryland, DNR estimates there are 2.8 million white tail deer. That's just in Maryland. There are 2 times that in Penn. state.

Do you know how shallow the water table is here in Maryland on the eastern shore? Hell, I could dig a 3 foot hole and hit fresh water.

The more you know...the better you are.

Thank you for your service. Well said and so true. There is no such thing as being "overprepared". And that deer population would dry up real fast if the S truly does HTF per se. People will kill a deer or a cow for one meal and leave the rest there to rot cause they have no clue how to dress it out or keep meat without refrigeration, etc...

I again refer to the book, One Second After. Read it and you will be aware of how unprepared you really are. Yes it's a worse case scenario but shit happens as they say. Preparing for the worst is not paranoia, it's smart. YMMV.

I have a CRKT pen and it's huge. I don't love it but I do carry it when I fly for business. I had a Mil-Tac pen and I liked it more but I lost it.

You might consider a Sharpie. Basically does the same thing.

Im not a fan of the tactical pen, odds are I'll use it to write more than I'll pull a Jason Bourne with one, and if you think about it, any pen that you can get a good thumb over the top grip on will work tolerably well.
