So was the OP's question answered? Maybe too much leftover turkey in my veins.....

I'm in the same boat. Brand new 2012 Double Cab OR sitting in my driveway (Whooo Hoo!) and I'm contemplating swapping the 265/70/16 BFG Rugged Trails for a set of 265/75/16 BFG TA KO's.

Will the 265/75/16 fit under the bed without any mods?

    Cheers,

    Salt

It should. I only ever heard of folks cutting tabs for the spare if the spare is 285.

As far as my question .. yeah I'll have to get a matching spare. It just makes the most sense. I'll look around for a gently used one though. I can't afford $200+ for a fifth tire right now.

As it is your spare tire, I would not be too concerned about the difference in height. A spare tire is only needed to get you to where you can get the flat repaired and put back on. Think of the "little" spares they put on cars, strange looking, but they can get you to a tire shop. If you can trade for another correct sized tire with little money, great.

Has the spare been on the ground yet? A small local shop will deal better for a trade than a national chain. Look on "Craigslist" and other places for the correct size spare. It does not have to be perfect, just has to hold air for 50 miles.

I've had used spares for years. Going to have to look around to swap my 285 for a 295 here soon. They are only there to get you to a place to replace the tire you lost, not be a permanent replacement, so a used tire usually works just fine.

Get 285s-I've got the OME lift w/ spidertrax and still needed to trim. Gotta do the cab mount chop here soon cause I don't think the 295's are gonna fit otherwise.

No matter what your rim size, your spare is probably mounted on the same low cost 16" steel rim as everyone else.

I mounted 265/75R16 spare down there, after checking that a 5th identical 285/70R17 wouldn't fit.

I always go to my local little family owned tire shop and they sell me a used one to match size for cheap. Sometimes he will even give me some credit for the one I bring in
