I have a set of LT285/75R16. They are great tires on and off road. I have about 5,000 miles on them and they had 16.5/32ths new and read 16/32ths currently. Couldn't be happier with these tires. Also a very quiet tire on the highway.

No money, all went to truck...
I had michillen AT, firestone AT and now have BFG AT. Of the 3 michellen was the best on road, nice ride but not as good off. The firestones were AWFUL. The traction on road sucked. They skidded and slipped all over the place, set off the antilock brakes all the time. It was terrible and scary! If it was raining and I had to stop at a stop sign in residential areas, I'd skid and the antilocks would rattle. Awful awful.

The BFGs are excellent. Really happy with them. Costco gives you a solid deal when they have coupons.

Michelin LTX is a GREAT pavement tire. Had them on my stock 01 4 Runner. Still looked new after 20k. I'm a big fan of the Nitto Terra Grapplers. I had a set of 285/75R16's on my 96 4 Runner. Put almost 70k on them. Replaced them with Sumitomo A/T's and totalled the truck 3 days later. NO wet traction. Crap tires IMHO.

I'm ditching my MS2's with less than 10K miles on TRD Sport Wheels...

Just won't look right on truck with lift....go big or stay home.....285/75/16...need at least an AT Tire or it just won't look right.

I love my MS2's....but not the look I'm going for now.....

Maybe look at the Yokahama Geolander ATS. I put a set on a Ford Ranger 4wd a few years ago and tread is still excellent condition today. I know this because until I got my Brand spanking new Taco, the ex loved to rub it in my face that she got my truck out of the deal.

I went with what a local shop recomended (I asked about Good Year Duraracs and he thought they would be fine but just cost more than what i ended up with).

    Ride nice,
    Traction great.
Have not tried in snow yet but they have to be better than the stock dunlops they replaced.

You shouldn't compare Chinese and Korean... Apples and oranges. Korean tires have been around much longer and have come a long ways. Hankook and Kumho are pretty well recognized now. Quite a few oems use them.

I saw a pair just like these with 5,000-miles and 6-months old and I wasn't impressed. Not to say your's won't hold, it looked like this guy was chronically under-inflated, but it's the only pair I've seen so far and they looked rough.

I've run Dueler Revo II's and now BFG AT's. While the BFG AT's look great, I haven't been too pleased with their performance on snow. I think the Revo was a much better tire in the snow. All other aspects they both seemed comparable to me.

Hard to tell from the pic but these suckers have some seriously deep lugs for traction in the mud and snow.

Last set was BFG AT... They look great, but they suck at everything else. Wanted to find a tire that looked good, but didn't have such ridiculous tread that it became unusable on the Hwy. I have gone through a lot of tires working in the forest industry and I finally came to a great tire. The Goodyear Duratrac gave me everything I was look for. I got the lower end ply tire (6 or something). Super aggressive looking and super quiet. Work great in the snow and rain... Not so great on ice. Very soft tire so don't expect to have the tires forever... But I love them and would get another set.

Another big fan of the Hankook Dynapro ATM RF10's. Really, no other tire can touch these for the price. I just paid $162 a tire installed for 265/65/17's. I researched the crap out of these tires and put them on my brand new '11 Taco with only 150 miles, replacing the stock Dunlops. Don't have enough mileage (only about 850) or so to give a thorough review, but

    Other tires I considered:

Falken Wildpeak - this tire has great reviews, especially offroad. I just don't care for the tread pattern myself. No experience with these tires, but I almost got them just based upon reviews.

Nitto Terra Grapplers - loved these tires on my Excursion, in load range E, no experience with them on a light truck, however.

Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ's - had these as my "street" tires on my TJ Rubicon. Great tire on dry pavement, wet pavement, snow and sand. I did not wheel these tires however because I had a set of dedicated off road tires that I would swap. Not the cheapest tire out there, but it is true you get 30% more tread on the tire compared to most others. Cons of this tire? Not a super aggressive look.

BFG AT's - highly overrated tire in my opinion. On my family's H2 in 35" spec, we got almost 100K on them before they had to be replaced, however. Not uncommon mileage either if you ask around. They are average to bad in wet weather however, especially when they've worn a little. Alot of people claim they are great in snow - I live where it snows on average 170" a year and I cannot agree, I would say average only. They suck in mud, and rocks. If aired down, they do well in sand. They are not cheap.

Maxxis Bighorn - one of the best tires I ever put on my Jeep. At one time they were almost half the price of MTR's, but due no doubt to their popularity, no longer the case. Off road performance was the same as MTR's, and on road they were better as the tread pattern is siped. Great wet weather performance as well as snow. They are studdable as well. I did not get a lot of mileage out of these tires, though. Maybe 25K. Was a bit disappointed and would not buy again mainly due to their now higher price, they are no longer a bargain tire.

Goodyear MTR -great tire with an emphasis on off road performance. MTR's offroad weakness is they do not clear mud real well. Other than that, they do really well in the rocks, sand, etc. Very strong sidewall. Not the greatest on road tire as they are loud, and not siped. Very expensive. If I offroaded alot I might consider them for my dd duties. Otherwise, I'd look elsewhere.

Duratracs - numerous positive reviews especially on this site. If I didn't mind spending the extra money over the Hankooks, I would have considered them. Unfortunately these were not in my budget. I don't know if they perform better than the Hankooks, I guess I'm going to find out.

Toyo Open Country AT - this is a great tire. I have wheeled with folks running this tire, as well as the MT's, which do even better offroad. These are super expensive tires, though, so I did not consider them. If money was not an object I would consider strongly.

Good luck with your decision. Hope some or all of this was helpful.

Having owned the BFG A/Ts and Duratracs I will say both are a fantastic tire but I prefer the duratracs offroad and for the looks. I prefer the ATs for on road and the tread longevity.

I'd also like to own a set of Cooper STs. Some day... and perhaps the terra grapplers as well.
