Replaced my Air Fuel Ratio Sensor today

Well, after several months with the CEL on because of a P0031 code due most likely to a bad Air Fuel Ratio sensor, I finally ordered a new part and got it installed today. I rode like this for months because I did not want to shell out $200 to $300 for a new one. Well after some research and reading the threads here, I found one for sale, new on Amazon for $82 shipped. Denso 234-9001 Oxygen Sensor (Air and Fuel Ratio Sensor)". RockAuto Auto Parts have them cheap as well for about $95 as mentioned here in the site but found them a little cheaper in Amazon. I can't wait to see my mileage go back to normal. I think I was getting a horrible 15miles to the gallon. We'll see in the next few fillups where I stand. Sure, will do. I have fuel mileage numbers here before the A/F sensor was replaced. Will wait after a few fillups to get an accurate fuel mileage reading with new sensor and post it here.

 

Well, I've been a little dissapointed with the results after replacing my A/F ratio sensor. There was little improvement from 14.8MPG to 15.4MPG. This is mostly city miles...haven't done a highway run but we'll see. Going to see what else I can do to increase my MPG.

 

Was this the bank 1 sensor 1 sensor? I have the p1135 error code and need to replace the air/fuel sensor too. I'm curious if it's the same one

Yes. Its sensor 1 bank 1, before the cat. I did get rid of the CEL. I may try to replace the rear O2 sensor and see if it helps some more. The rear sensor hasn't been replaced. If you are looking for a part check out rockauto or Amazon. Those were the cheapest price I found around $85.

 

I've heard of people pulling their sensors off and soaking the unit in gasoline overnight. To clean them. From what I've read, it's safe to do, but hey, if you have to replace trashed sensor, why not give it a shot and see if the light goes off? Disconnect the negative battery cable while you're replacing it, that way your computer will recalibrate to the new mixture.
