are u talking about continuing to pump after the pump kicks off? it doesnt hurt the pump, BUT it can hurt the canister. raw fuel can find its way to the canister saturating it and ruining it. then ur gonna need a$800 plus part plus labor. not a smart idea

 

After the pump kicks off, I just keep filling to the nearest whole dollar.

 

x2, and refill at 1/4 tank.

No need for the extra 15 mile range.

i thnk i would just pull the nozel out and spray all over the ground if they came bitching at me about topping off my vehicle..

 

Trying to "top up" as defined as filling until gas is going up the neck of the fill tube you can damage your evaporative fuel system canister, don't do it.

Topping up isn't fill till it clicks and one more little squirt.

Neither of which will help your lines from freezing or keep the filter from pulling in the gunk that some people believe accumulates somewhere?

I'll throw in my $0.02. With a Tacoma, I don't think topping off will hurt the fuel pump, but, on my dads trailblazer, his fuel pump went out 4 times, every single time it was right when he topped it off with gas. He would fill up the tank, wait for it to stop taking gas, then keep putting more and more, it would usually stop @ 20 ga
Lon's when it auto stops, then he would put about 2 more gallons in, then bam! Need a fuel pump. I just fill up and wait for it to stop, wait 10 seconds and hold the pump more until it stops again on its own.

 

I guess your dad agrees that topping up has no effect on this right?

If you keep filling up after the gas clicks it could fill up your evap canister and fuel mixes with the charcoal that is inside the canister which can cause damage to your fuel system and can leave you stranded
